October 31, 2010 // 12:31 pm - A few weeks ago AerialX started the open-source PS3 homebrew SDK PSL1GHT, and today he has Tweeted that PS3Load is available (essentially Wiiload for PS3) to run SELF programs via wireless or wired network shortly followed by a bugfix update and adding support for sending zips for apps that need data files.

Download: PS3Load for PS3 / PS3Load (PKG) for PS3 / PS3Load (and PKG) for PS3 v0.2 / PS3Load for PS3 v0.2a

To quote: "As an example I wrote a program called PS3Load.

For those familiar with Wiiload and the Homebrew Channel, PS3Load allows you to run SELF programs over your wireless or wired network!

To use it, simply run Wiiload with a .self file, and point it to your PS3's IP address.

PS3Load is included in PSL1GHT's samples, but I've also attached a precompiled self for running directly from app_home (package coming soon).

For the ultimate fun, ps3load ps3load into ps3load so you can ps3load while you ps3load."

Following up on the earlier releases, today PlayStation 3 developer an0nymous has updated PS3Load which allows users to run PS3 SELF programs via wireless or wired network with some make_self bug fixes as outlined below.

Download: PS3Load GNPDRM PKG (580.47 KB)

To quote via PS3 Dev Wiki (

Older versions of ps3load would not work on 3.50/3.55 ("sysProcessExitSpawn2" won't work proper), and you had to use 3.41 instead. This is no longer an issue with the recent version ps3load which fixed the (make_self) issue for 3.55 standalone precompiled version to try: ps3load.gnpdrm.pkg (don't forget to delete your old version first)

Using ps3load:

1. make your app, produce at least an ELF
2. sprxlinker yourapp.elf (this should be done for you if you use any of the samples)
3. make_self yourapp.elf yourapp.self
4. load ps3load on the PS3
5. define the PS3LOAD environment variable in your favorite shell with tcp:ip_addr (where ip_addr is your the ip address of your PS3)
6. ps3load yourapp.self

IRC notes:

  • [eussNL] an0nymous solved the make_self
  • [eussNL] it was never a problem of ps3load, but from make_self
  • [eussNL] also, 3.50++ added memory protection (W^X)

PS3Load v0.2 attached.
Nov. 1 Update: It seems that a number of people were having problems with the first pkg I created, so I've uploaded a slight bugfix.

Fail!: It does recieve the file that I send it, but it sticks on the grey screen! No booting back to XMB!

I guess a small bugfix would be enough to make it usable.

ok so if we get a .elf file from a wii game will it work?

How about you read it again. And if you still don't understand then read it again. And if you still fail then don't bother with it.
