August 4, 2012 // 8:41 pm - Following up on his previous release, this weekend Sony PlayStation 3 hacker Naehrwert has updated SCETool to version 0.2.8 which now includes SPP parsing among the changes outlined below.

For those unaware, SCETool is a PS3 key crypto tool that supports a wide range of binary file types (SELF, RVK, PKG, SPP, OTHER).

To quote via Twitter: SCETool 0.2.8 (intermediate release)

Version 0.2.8 (intermediate release):

  • Fixed minor bugs where scetool would crash.
  • Added SPP parsing.
  • Decrypting RVK/SPP will now write header+data to file.

what does the tool actually do though. I see my comment from the last update is just there.

I wouldn't really want to repeat myself, but yeah.. should have that info in there.

Recently PlayStation 3 developer naehrwert has updated PS3 SCETool to version 0.2.2, which includes several fixes and optimizations as outlined below.

From the included ReadMe file: History:

Version 0.2.2:

  • Added options to override control/capability flags (32 bytes each).
  • Fixed where a false keyset would crash scetool when decrypting a file.
  • Some source level changes and optimizations.

Version 0.2.1:

  • zlib is required to use scetool.
  • 'sdk_type' was changed to 'revision' in data/keys.

I know what a SELF file is, but what does this do with them?

Following up on the previous revisions, this weekend PlayStation 3 hacker naehrwert has updated SCETool to version 0.2.1 which now includes full PS3 SELF file support.

Download: PS3 SCETool v0.2.1 / ZLib1.dll File (Required)

To quote: scetool 0.2.1 - SELFs should be fully supported now.

so the scetool 0.1.2 version is released, i guess this is the version thats supposed to work with 3.56
