294w ago - Well, I hinted at it last week, that we were getting something BIG, and yeah- we did!

It retails for $10,250.00, weighs in around 45lbs, is around 19" wide and 24" deep. If you have not guessed it yet, it's a PS3 TOOL, also known as a PS3 Reference Kit, also known as the DECR-1000A.

This unit is the big brother to the new DECR-1400A, and has many more features than the newer, neutered counterpart. Most of them are outlined in my recently updated thread, but the jist of it is that it has dual 400GB hard disks, dual HDMI outputs, 4x LAN connectors, analog audio output, VGA output - just to name a few.

Compared to a PS3 Debug/TEST unit, the PS3 TOOL can do MUCH more, including diagnosing exactly what is happening when perceived "exploit" code is run to crash/hang the PS3. However, the biggest feature is having the ability to capture output from the PS3 Hypervisor (LV1) and the PS3 Kernel (LV2)!

More will be posted in future updates on what our PS3 Dev Team can do with it, as this literally just arrived and was unpacked/set-up a few hours ago.

Needless to say, its massive, and has so many features it will take our DEVS quite awhile to get through. We need to start testing on a low firmware (around .85) and work our way up to 3.00, looking for exploits among other interesting things.

This is truly as good as it gets when it comes to Sony PS3 hardware though- lots more to come... until then, check out the nice picture below!

Pop goes the weasel

The Key of this reference Tool is:
the biggest feature is having the ability to capture output from the PS3 Hypervisor (LV1) and the PS3 Kernel (LV2)!

if a dever could find a way around the LV1 than no signing will be needed and there for we could use HB without the Retail-Key and it WILL work.

Why? The hypervisior scans for the signing, No HV = No signing needed....

....and so On

Sony has to sign anything that is intended to run on the ps3 so even if he made a game or some app, it would not just simply work. Swap magic works because the SM disc is seen as an authentic ps2 disc by the ps2/ps3, so for him to make a sm bluray disc he'd need to be able to print proper discs which he cant (just my noob guess).

I doubt we will see much soon but at least they have more to work with now.

would be great if there'll be homebrew on ps3 soon ... but if you can create games with this TOOL wouldn't it be possible to create a "swap magic bluray" running on ps3?

I think outside of learning about how the PS3 works it would be awesome to put those "hackers" in there place when they release "tiff exploits" and whatever other junk they turn up.

Having this tool can quickly kill all rumors and assumptions when these soon to be irrelevant posts come up in the forum. You just grab the picture... load it on the test, see what spits out and tell them... doesn't work, here is proof why it never will and im still awesome... heh

good luck.

I think the only 2 problems would be:
1. making external "savegame" (aka copy of a game) inbound
2. loading an unprotected savegame (no encryption)

Anyways there are so many other modules that may be exploited. Like In-Game-Music from harddrive and so on.
I hope this may finally lead somewhere.

now we have more important problems..
anyway CJ isn't a game maker so he can't create game... he could if he would like, but now he want just create a customfw for ps3
