January 10, 2011 // 8:37 am - Update: This method ended up failing because the LV2 address range is protected by Sony on PS3 with Firmware v3.55, so Netkas and flukes1 are now working on a patch for LV1 instead.

Today Netkas and flukes1 have successfully managed to patch the PS3 lv2_kernel in v3.55 Firmware to allow peek and poke syscalls, meaning PlayStation 3 backup managers and Custom Firmware (CFW) will also be able to make use of them!

Download: PS3 3.55 LV2 Kernel Patched with Peek/Poke / PS3 3.55 Custom Firmware with Peek/Poke / 3.55 Peek-n-Poke Patcher GUI and 3.55 Peek-n-Poke Patcher GUI v2 by Quakes69

From the ReadMe file:Patch to add peek and poke syscalls to PS3 firmware v3.55 by flukes1 and netkas ( #ps3test)

To create the patched PS3UPDAT.PUP:

1. Use bspatch to apply PS3UPDAT.PUP.bsdiff to Sony's official 3.55 PUP, which is available from their website.
2. Run this from command line: "bspatch PS3UPDAT.PUP PS3UPDAT-NEW.PUP PS3UPDAT.PUP.bsdiff"
2. Ensure that the md5sum of the resulting PS3UPDAT.PUP is: 337831fac6a9b05074f73710c4bb7c86

Simply install the patched PS3UPDAT.PUP onto your PS3, then install geohot's jailbreak.

Our PUP can be installed over any firmware version, including 3.55-geohot. If you install over 3.55-geohot, you must reinstall geohot's jailbreak afterwards.

For developers: peek is syscall 6, poke is syscall 7 (same as PL3 dev payload)

Props to mastag22, lastExile, Killer_In - our testers with balls of steel.

I went from 3.55 Geo JB -> 3.55 OFW
Now I can't flash Peek & Poke through System / Update - it says I already have 3.55

Hi there. I am also very new to this. I came from the jailbreaking world of the iPhone and heard of this when those jailbreakers helped with the ps3. Is there any documentation anywhere that shows step by step on what to do? I already jailbroke the PS3 with Geohot's JB, played some old NES games through roms which was fun, but i am interested in playing backups.

All these forum posts about elfs, managers ftp and that just made things all confusing because i am probably reading them out of order. Can you or anyone show a step by step on what to do, what software i need, and the process on working a backup copy of a game (say GT5) on my system (Knowing that it currently is not working, but assuming that it will work soon )

If anyone can do that, i would greatly appreciate it, and i am sure so too would the new jailbreakers in the world.

1. a brick does not happen over time as you suggest

2. geohot either does not know how to patch lvl 2 successfully (notice the 2 bricked fat ps3s in his last video), or he is on a one man crusade against game backups. i'm willing to bet that he does not know how as he spends his time working on everything but loading game backups.

The Genie is already out of the bottle and no matter how hard anyone (including Sony) tries its never going back in!

And BTW this is the firmware to have at this moment if you want to be ready to newer revisions of the backup managers and the rest of it...

You dig? Ok good!

Nice now all that is needed is a manager that uses these.

i just used a patched update file to install this and reinstalled geohot's jb over it (originally just had geohot's jb). everything seems to work the same. can't wait for a back up manager to update...

So let me get this straight, they have only enabled Syscall 6 and 7? Why not enable all syscalls?

With just 6 and 7 no manager will run... Or have i missunderstood something?
