September 7, 2010 // 11:45 am - With the start of the real PS3 Scene, people sharing what they have - I decided to code up this little, horribly buggy PS3 FTP server homebrew app.

Download: PS3 FTP Server Homebrew Application / PS3 FTP Server Homebrew Application (Mirror)

It is an FTP Server for the PS3, with it, on a retail with your choice of "hack" to enable unsigned code it allows:

• Full Read/Write access to all of "dev_hdd0" (including save areas, games, VM etc)
• Full Read/Write access to "dev_flash2" and "dev_flash3"
• Full Read/Write access to connected usb devices
• Full Read access to "dev_flash"
• Full Read access to "dev_bdvd"

To use:

Connect with your choice of FTP client - Prefered is the old "ftp" from the command line, however Filezilla seems to work, allowing only one connection, and disabling PASV support.

Furthermore, the Server does not support some commands (like rename, of all things!) so make sure what you do counts!

Use the IP shown on the screen - make sure to have your net connection up and running before hand (wired is so much faster)

Connect to that IP, port 21, use the username: FTPD12345, and whatever password you like. I could have removed the username check in the library, but I'm lazy!

Be careful, some of the flash contents ARE writable , nobody is responsible for what you do to your PS3 but you!

• Can not write to dev_flash
• Can not rename files
• Buggy as hell (randomly crashes, blame Sony!)
• Files > 4GB increments show as the difference, for example a 6GB file shows as "2gb", or a 11gb file shows as 3gb - It will download, well past 100% , just let it keep going!

Finally, this app was coded quickly, by someone who can't code for the life of him. It mostly uses provided API's, and the GUI is based off of a sample - but, it gets the job done.

Furthermore a tiny, tiny, super tiny bit of editing was done to the library to allow full access to the entire system, and the hack enabled the rest! Enjoy!

Hello. Looking for Help. I got my At90 in the mail and wanted to try. I didnt have enough room on my internal hdd to backup a game so I ftp'd into the ps3 and copied the game, home, savedata and theme folders from hdd0 to my pc. I formatted my disc and cleared room.

The problem is that when I copy these folders back onto the ps3, it doesnt recognize them. The game saves are my biggest concern, but of course would like to have all my trophies back as well. I know the saves work just fine, as I can move them to a usb stick and move them over to the ps3 one at a time and that works.

Since I have ALOT of game saves, is there a way to move my backed up content (saves and trophies) over to the ps3 and it be recognized?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Picking jaw off ground. having problems with PS3 FTP, then try this! Just used the PS3 FTP app again. Had tried for days to get a solid connection. Always dropped out and the usual stuff that people had issues with too. But here is a much better way if you are having troubles.

My house has network ports in each room. My console is in my bedroom and the PC is in my err PC room. Previoulsy was connected to the router [with internet disconnected in case of pkg phoning home]. So PS3, PC all connected to router.

Most I would get would be averaging 10mb/s so not bad. Though the old man wanted to use the net, and I wanted to use the FTP. So grabbed my 20 foot CAT5 cable and plugged it into the PC.

Now I can't really tell you how to do the next step as I'm not sure how to lol but this is what I did. Hopefully the same things happens to you.

When connected to the PC direct with a CAT5 network cable, I went to the PS3 Network Settings and did the top link - Settings and Connection Status - you'll see the info regarding the local network.

It showed that my PS3 had (Private Network Only), where as my PC was (you can check with cmd and Ipconfig) - when connected to my router it was given a DHCP address.

I was even able to ping the PS3 within cmd and got packets back lol

Went back to PS3 FTP server and started the FTP service. Note you won't see any IP, but something about internal/sprx or something at the top

Go to Filezilla and set these settings in the Site Manager (or Quickconnect)

Host - the console's IP address / in my case it was
Username - FTPD12345
Password - whatever you like
Port - 21

Oh I also went into Site Manager and went to Transfer Settings and set the Transfer to Active and max connections to 1 as someone suggested on this thread.

My new average with direct connection is 25-50mb/s and at this very moment has transfered 6108 files without a hicupp. I was able to backup a game which was installed onto the internal hard drive. Oh just failed now - transfered 6277 files - including the game, which was 22GB. At one stage transfered 1.1GB in 101 seconds (MGS4 dat file).

Just did a couple of transfers from bdvd to PC and getting average 10-15mb/s.

Only at the very start did it crash and lose connection. This time I went to the PS3 FTP and shut down the app and reloaded it. Filezilla found it and continued forth. Before hand, I'd have to shut Filezilla down, shut down the PS3 FTP app. [also Pain seems to be a bit of a pain in the butt - that seems to crash the ftp every time]

At this very moment transfered 14824 files with only 5 failed transfer which was the game. Haven't had a single fail from the dev_hdd0 or flash areas.

All up transfered 60,509 files in the one sitting - without a single crash from Filezilla and about 3 restarts with PS3 FTP server (mainly PAIN was the problem game there).

If you can - use a direct CAT5e cable.

Answer is right in front of you.. turn off PASV mode!! In Filezilla select your bookmark, in the "Transfer Settings" tab, select "Active" as transfer mode (default is to try PASV).. Change "Limit number of simultaneous connections" to 1.

My setup is through a basic 10/100mbps switch in to my PC in the other room and I regularly get 8-15mb/sec direct to the internal PS3 HDD. PS3 does 1000mbps but my present switch doesn't so it may be possible to get several times faster than those figures.

Oh yeah, the other thing is if you transfer direct to your external hard drive connected to the PS3, that goes through USB, and it appears to only be USB1 type speeds, so you'll only probably get about 2-3mbps. Best to transfer direct on your PC, then plug it in.

Other thing you can do is use FTP to initially send your game to the PS3 HDD, then use the Awesome filemanager to copy it to your USB. That way you can turn off your PC if you need.

Shame the guy doesn't want to update it, it desperately needs a rename command. Then again looking at the welcome string which talks about Sony 2007, maybe he just grabbed and changed some of the sample code from the SDK.

However, there are plenty of open source FTP servers around (with source code), so a proper one should be ported eventually, it will just take some time by somebody who is a good C or C++ programmer.. Same with a client actually.

There are loads and loads of samples in the official SDK to get people kicked off on pretty much anything

Has someone been able to extract content from a bluray-movie with the FTP server? I always get read errors.. could possible be because of somekind of copyright protection or something...

Would be great with an application for ripping movies on the PS3.

I can get this to work through router with no internet at speeds of 1.2-2mb/s but i read a few post that it worked hooked straight to the pc (speeds of 12-21 mb/s). The bridge method works on my xbox and other computers but, not on ps3? if someone know what were doing wrong... Help!

What does the PS3 show up as on the computer when you want to bridge the connections? Maybe I'm just not getting it, but is the PS3 supposed to be connected with an ethernet cable straight from the ps3 to the pc, or the ps3 and the pc both going to a router...? Either way, The PS3 is not even showing up so I could bridge the connections... Im using windows 7 btw.

Post #277's guide itself says to connect them straight and other people said they have it connected through the router but are not doing it wireless... I am so confuzzled

Can someone go into a little more depth about the beginning steps? Thank you in advance.

It started to work again.. after reinstalling the PKG and getting nowhere I decided to try FTP'ing from another computer.. It logged in fine..

A simple:

Start> Run> CMD
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

Fixed the problem right away on my laptop..

you can instal lbp 2 beta but after you do and try and start... LBP2 beta just says... this content can be used if you renew the license/lisense in Playstation Store

Does LBP 2 work with anyone? (i haven't signed up to PSN on this PS3 yet so tht might be the issue) someone try it on a user they have an account with already but obviously dont sign in) anyone?

is there any chance we could play it on 3.41? just offline on create? any way to force start the game using an app?

change settings inside pkg and reinstall?

If it is updated it will be posted in the Site News, as far as I know CJPC has no immediate plans to update it or release the source code though.
