PS3 Firmware 4.00 Dev_Flash Dump by UpSilon Arrives, Detailed

167w ago - A few weeks back PS3 Firmware 4.0 was released, and recently French PlayStation 3 developer UpSilon has made available a dump of the dev_flash contents for others who wish to examine it alongside a previous version below.

Download: PlayStation 3 Firmware 4.00 Dev_Flash Dump / PlayStation 3 Firmware 3.73 Dev_Flash Dump

To quote, roughly translated: UpSilon, French developer already known to have deciphered some files on the console of Nintendo 3DS, ext today through his blog, the dump dev_flash firmware 4.00.

For information, dev_flash is a very sensitive part of the PS3 NAND which contains many key information such as firmware, the numbers of encryption running games and other programs, or other important files firmware. The dump of this part could therefore, if a developer managed to unpack, to facilitate the establishment of a CFW 4.00.

Upsilon also announced it has started working on the reactivation of the Service Mode (Jailbreak) on 3.56 + firmware.

From UpSilon's page: Here is a dump of the version 4.00 dev_flash.

I had previously leaked dump my firmware 3.73 (Available for download in the "Download"), but my site was still under construction and I lost much time to update it due to the time I devote to my studies (Terminal LAC) and I did not have much time was devoted to the scene.

During the holidays I am responsible, but I will try to give as much information as possible waiting for a response from Kakaroto. I shared these dumps to get the attention of developers to program an emulator we dev_flash.

For those who want to test dumps on 3.41JB with "FIRM JaiCrab Load" because you can try on my side, I used "CFWLoad 1.0" in 3.41JB (PL3). Emulation looked heavy, I could not leave the program because after a few seconds the console would have been totally blocked. I thought at first the problem was my jailbreak. However, this was not the case, because after I tried with a 3.41 dump (edit) and loading it well.

I finally concluded that the emulator should help the dev_flash home to work, for this reason that when you make a NAND emulated with SHIFT it resets everything to ultimately make a regular MAJ that will change the real dev_flash your console. Attention, the emulator does not emulate completely dev_flash stored in your USB drive. (Internal HDD etc ...).

If developers are interested in these dumps, I hope they will do something. I for my part I work on the Factory / Service Mode firmware higher than 3.56 and the Nintendo 3DS.

If you want to be a beta tester, you'll need a hardware flasher and be able to downgrade multiple times.

XMBM+ update 0.10.00 for my 4.00HFW users see here http://www.ps4news.com/forums/ps3-cfw-mfw/rebug-cfw-3-41-3-3-55-2-otheros-3-66-version-spoofer-119969-17.html#post408528

It turns out my PS3 nor connecters were pushed in and indented (a result from applying to much pressure from my broken clip). I realised this today when I tried to install a brand new flasher that I just received in the mail. So my ps3 is messed. If there are to be any updates on my HFW in the near future, I would need someone who would be willing to test builds for me.

For those using my 4.00 HFW, you may be wondering about my response to 4.10 OFW. Well at the moment, I can't really do anything as my nor flasher died - mid-downgrade.

I am ordering another one and when I get it I will look for a 4.10 solution. But until then I will keep the XMB Manager Updated for my HFW v3 users. In case you don't know, the XMB Manager, now known as the XMB Manager Plus (XMBM+ for short) is now nearing v0.10, which will feature many improvements (mostly behind the scene). I will have to tweak the interface to make it appropriate for 4.00.

Until I can find a solution, and for those who still want to remain on my HFW there is a 4.10 update by-pass for 4.00 made by cotojestwtf. Download here: http://www.ps4news.com/playstation-3-psn-news/ps3-system-software-update-4-10-arrives-details-and-new-tos/

Ok your VSH is 'Shop' then you can't install CEX firmware under normal circumstances. Unfortunately my PS3 recently died, so I can't replicate the scenario and give a definite answer. This is what I would do, in the order I would have done it( I am assuming you have a PS3 with a NOR flash. Don't do this If your ps3 doesn't have a NOR flash) :

1/ (this is most likely not to work, but still worth a shot) I would use PS3MFW Builder to patch an (original) OFW 4.00 pup with (and only with) the "Patch firmware for installation shop/promo unit". IF you don't have that option in PS3MFW Builder you can download the task file for that here: "https://rapidshare.com/files/2110721203/patch_shop.tcl".

Once downloaded just put it in the task folder of PS3MFW builder and patch the OFW 4.00 pup. The modified pup you created should be installable from the XMB. Don't worry if this doesn't work it'll just give you an error and nothing bad will happen. If it does work your ps3 will be CEX(retail) and on OFW 4.00.

2/ If you have two hard-drives which are compatible with the ps3. I would do a HDD switch, (again this may not work). While the ps3 is off, take out the HDD you are using the ps3 with in demo mode, and put in another one (this other HDD must be blank or come from another PS3 or only have retail FW on it, also this HDD hdd will be formatted if it has not been used on this PS3 before) and turn on the ps3. It should prompt you to insert a usb stick with 4.00 or later FW. Put a original (retail) OFW 4.00 in the PS3/UPDATE/ directory on your USB. Follow the prompts, It will ask if you want to format the HDD, say yes.

Once its done it's preparations it should then install OFW 4.00 and when it finishes you will no longer be in demo mode. If this did not work go to "3/" otherwise keep reading. Now that you have one HDD booting into retail FW that works, swap this HDD with the Demo FW HDD. Synchronise your trophies with PSN and copy all your saves to a USB stick.

Swap the HDD to the Retail FW one. Make the same user accounts that were on the other HDD copy the saves to the relevant accounts. Then sign into PSN on the accounts you just created, Synchronise your trophies with PSN on each account that has a PSN account. Your PS3 is now running OFW 4.00 with the saves and trophies from your old HDD.

3/ If "1/" and "2/" did not work I would resort to downgrading my PS3 with a hardware flasher like the E3 Flasher. If you want to keep you don't want to format the original HDD (the one you are currently using with the DEMO firmware) use another hdd during the downgrade to 3.55 process. Once you have downgraded to 3.55.

Turn off the PS3 put swap the HDD already in the PS3 with your Demo 4.00 HDD. It'll say the PS3 cannot boot properly and require a re-installation using PS3 FW 3.55 or above. You can either Install OFW 4.00 or my 4.00 HFW v3. But if you still want to have homebrew you should install Rogero's 3.55 CFW v2 (most likely the same firmware you used in the downgrade procedure). Once installed you should not be running in demo mode anymore

I hope this helps.
