February 12, 2014 // 10:40 pm - Following up on the previous revision and his SEN Enabler v5.4.0 update, today PlayStation 3 developer Evilnat (aka Nathan_r32_69) added 4.55 PS3 CFW support to Estwald's Control Fan Utility alongside a Fan Control / NOGUI v2.03 Mod by aldostools and a Control Fan Utility v1.94 Mod by Baxalo with details below.

Download: Control Fan [PKG+SRC].rar / Fan Control v2.03 / Fan Control-NOGUI v2.03 / Fan Control Utility (ISO/ NO GUI) 2.03 (faniso.rar) by aldostools / Control Fan Utility v1.94 by Baxalo / Gamesonic Control Fan Utility[PKG+SRC].rar (Gamesonic Control Fan Utility 2.0 Italian version) by franzes80

To quote: Here is Control Fan Utility for CFW 4.55, I tested it personally and worked fine.

Thanks to Estwald for his awesome tool.

Improvements

  • Added support for CFW 4.55

Regards

PD: Sorry for a simple thread, but it doesn't have too much data.

Update: Fan Control Utility (ISO/No GUI) 2.03 by aldostools

This is an unofficial version of Fan Control Utility by Estwald that auto-quits immediately to XMB after set the fan policy. Hold X for 10 seconds to enable the GUI. The settings will be saved in the internal HDD, if the included PKG is installed and dev_hdd0/game/CTRLFAN00/fan_speed.dat exists.

New in 2.03:

  • Added payload 4.55CEX from Estwald's official Iris Manager 2.90.

Note: The AUTOBOOT.ISO for COBRA 7 auto-quits. There are 2 PKG files: one has no GUI, the other always shows the GUI. If you use 4.46 COBRA 7, you can use the Dynamic Fan Control option in webMAN 1.29

Credits: Thanks to Estwald for the payload for 4.55CEX, PS3L1GHT environment and the open source project. Thanks to HABIB for the payloads for 4.46/4.50/4.53CEX.

done setting on my side, although it lags on games and highly noticeable.

My old temps without FCU:

CPU:70-77celcius (idle to while gaming)
GPU: 57-63celcius (idle to while gaming)

With FCU running in custom payload setting:

CPU: 57-68celcius (idle to while gaming)
GPU: 51-53celcius (idle to while gaming)

setting from 0x80 - 0xA5

Well that's the big difference between using FCU and a normal SYSCON fan control.

Install fan utility 1.7
Run the program
Go to Siscom mode
Leave the program pressing triangle in Siscom mode.
Delete the program in XMB
In recovery mode Restore File System and Rebuild Data base
Never use it again

Am I doing something wrong or is it not functioning properly on Rebug Rex 4.30.2? I select the automatic payload and exit so then it goes to sleep. I start it up and it is on the payload, by default it turns on the fan while the default setting would have it pretty much off until around 60C. But unless I enter the actual program again it does not increase speeds, it remains at a low setting. Entering the program to get it functioning properly is not an option since exiting it causes it to put the PS3 to sleep again.

Edit - It seems to work fine from a cold boot though.

Edit 2 - Well it seems I have no idea what I'm doing because now that I've re-enable error messages it's saying what's happening is an improper shutdown, and it doesn't work off of a cold boot. Last time must have been a coincidence.

I don't know why it's not functioning, whether it's a problem in general or if I've done something wrong. If anyone has any ideas please post them.

Edit 3 - Good news, I think I finally figured out what the unknown factor was. Every time I run the Rebug Toolkit beforehand it no longer crashes. I've tried it 4 times in a row, and it's 4/4. Any time I did not run the Toolkit first, it crashed. It's very unlikely to happen that many times in a row if it was a coincidence.

I have no idea why this is, but I hope the author fixes this soon. It's a very important program, it makes the PS3 loud but is well worth it. My extremely well cleaned and maintained PS3 (which I use AS5 on) would approach 70C on the Cell and 68C on the RSX while idle. That's insanity, for comparison my Xeon W3530 at 4GHz idles at 40C and tends to max out at 65ish in programs.

That's a relatively large overclock pushing it beyond its normal thermal limit or it would have lower temperatures. No wonder the solder holding the Cell and RSX degrade and break, they probably approach 100C under full stress. Now my PS3's temps are 63-64C/59-60C at all times including under load, it just increases the fan speed as needed to keep the temps around there it seems.

Edit 4 - After further testing it seems it runs without crashing if run after Multiman as well. This leads me to believe so long as a program is run before it, it won't crash.

Some bad news though, having it run it's auto setting, the payload, seems to interfere with normal function. Whenever I have it set to the payload I get static in games, even the sound quality in general when it's not static seems degraded. Having a manual constant setting resolves this but is not ideal.

The games I tested were Blazblue Continuum Shift Extend and Persona 4 Arena. Both have very obvious static in the music when the payload is running. I hope the author can solve these problems.

heat is the main reason of YLOD. So the aim of this is quite obvious

So...what are the actual benefits of using this utility other than maintaining the PS3 at a reasonable temperature? I ask since there are posts here saying one utility or the other with this fan speed functionality are causing them YLOD. Yet on first impression, I thought this was perfect for older PS3s with the tendency to suffer YLODs.

There's no such thing as DREX firmware, D-REX is REX but installable on DEX firmware. Once you install D-REX, you end up on REX.

So this sentence should actually say: Rebug 4.30.2 REX works just fine in DEX mode as well.

Great app! Hopefully I'll dodge YLoD on my 60GB using this. Just one thing though, I can't figure out how to edit and install custom Payload settings. I've edited them in the ps3_controlfan.S file to what I want them to be.

My issue now is rebuilding the .pkg so I can have customized fan speed. Can anyone give me any pointers? Much thanks.
