August 30, 2010 // 12:43 pm - Over the weekend the PS3 modchip known as PS JailBreak was examined, and today Mathieulh has made several Tweets (linked above) confirming that his PS3 hacker team have successfully cloned the PS JailBreak USB device.

Essentially this means the PS3 hack used to run PlayStation 3 game backups on a retail PS3 console was itself hacked, and according to Mathieulh details on the exploit used will be publically documented and available as soon as next week.

Those interested in acquiring the necessary hardware, specifically a Teensy ++ board or an AT90USBKEY, may want to check HERE for some handy links.

Below are some quotes from his recent Tweets, as follows:

"Someone from our group just successfully cloned the psjailbreak dongle. Going to improve the shell code soon.

We are not releasing anything, we didn't just rip things off, we know how it works, the clone is just a POC, we plan on documenting.

The exploit will be documented on the ps3wiki as soon as possible (we need to write up the whole article, will take a bit)

Buy an AT90USBKEY or Teensy board now and we'll have good news soon.

Right now as far as I know the (original clone) code has been ported to the Teensy ++ There is no ETA as to any other devices so far."

Teensy Key Features:

• USB can be any type of device
• AVR processor, 16 MHz
• Single pushbutton programming
• Easy to use Teensy Loader application
• Free software development tools
• Works with Mac OS X, Linux & Windows
• Tiny size, perfect for many projects
• Available with pins for solderless breadboard
• Very low cost & low cost shipping options

I'm a recently graduated high school student. I just started college and had to dish out $300+ (that my parents payed for) for books. I don't have a job or a car (not until I get my financial aid $$$ in a few weeks), so every dollar means a lot to me.

In other words, that's one less 20 sack.

@Pretikewl, we share mutual feelings. You pretty much took the words right out of my soul x]

But anyways... Question! I've got a psp, so should I even bother with buying one of these chips?

lol what are you people arguing about? I know the ps3 scene has had a lots of fakes and whatnot, more then enough to make skeptics out of everyone.

Also in the past, some sensitive information could not be released, as it would have done more harm than good, and most of you would not have been able to do anything with it anyway.

Finally, for years i have been following firstly the psp scene and then the ps3 scene, I can vouch that Mathieulh and his team are reliable. I would also like to state for those who know more about whats goin on in the scene right now that is it not a declaration of me taking sides in anything.

I'm not trying to start an arguement over it, but there's an old saying that keeps popping in my head.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

i agree. but in this situation, they're doing nothing wrong or keeping anything to themselves as far as i can tell.

just be glad they are sharing this time. it doesn't matter who it comes from as long as it gets done, right? we're all a community, even the mathieulh group (is that how you spell it?)

it'll cost them to release the actual thing. it requires the certain hardware listed above. im sure they cant afford to buy everyone one of those. you'd have to be a millionaire and then some. the software side, they could. but then how do we learn?

what happens when they leave the PS3 scene? this won't be hard for other devs to do anyway once documented. so what's the problem?
