247w ago - Over the weekend the PS3 modchip known as PS JailBreak was examined, and today Mathieulh has made several Tweets (linked above) confirming that his PS3 hacker team have successfully cloned the PS JailBreak USB device.

Essentially this means the PS3 hack used to run PlayStation 3 game backups on a retail PS3 console was itself hacked, and according to Mathieulh details on the exploit used will be publically documented and available as soon as next week.

Those interested in acquiring the necessary hardware, specifically a Teensy ++ board or an AT90USBKEY, may want to check HERE for some handy links.

Below are some quotes from his recent Tweets, as follows:

"Someone from our group just successfully cloned the psjailbreak dongle. Going to improve the shell code soon.

We are not releasing anything, we didn't just rip things off, we know how it works, the clone is just a POC, we plan on documenting.

The exploit will be documented on the ps3wiki as soon as possible (we need to write up the whole article, will take a bit)

Buy an AT90USBKEY or Teensy board now and we'll have good news soon.

Right now as far as I know the (original clone) code has been ported to the Teensy ++ There is no ETA as to any other devices so far."

Teensy Key Features:

• USB can be any type of device
• AVR processor, 16 MHz
• Single pushbutton programming
• Easy to use Teensy Loader application
• Free software development tools
• Works with Mac OS X, Linux & Windows
• Tiny size, perfect for many projects
• Available with pins for solderless breadboard
• Very low cost & low cost shipping options

It has only been a little over a week since the announcement. How have you been waiting 3 weeks?

Yup, I've waited years to see this kind of stuff happen. I'm not too hasty to spend money on this, when more than likely, there will be a free solution eventually. Plus, I kinda wanna see what Sony plans on doing to combat this before I jump right into it.

I never planned on buying PSJB, ever. Infact, I didn't even consider it. That price is just outrageous lol. Hell, at this point I don't even play my PS3 that much. Having PSJB probably wouldn't even incline me to play it. But homebrew... That's a whole 'nother story. I'd be on my PS3 all day x] Anyways, point being. Regardless if you make this device as soon as the info's available, it'll still be a bit until homebrew starts appearing. I'm still gonna have to wait in the end... If I wait, I miiiight just end up saving $20 aswell. Killing 2 birds with one stone here, win/win situation.

Not to mention, my computer knowledge is very limited... I probably wouldn't be able to assemble the thing even if I had directions, I'm not even gonna lie... x] I'm better off waiting until some kind of software is available.

if i've now wasted $30ish dollars on this teensy++ it's a lot better than the $170. i have no real regrets for the refund.

i have faith in mathieulh and if all fails, i'm sure there's a solution

NOW i can wait.

Has it really already been three weeks? o.O

damn time went by too fast :x

Not really - those have in description "No special programmer needed - programming via built in USB port" ...

And here is a couple more of suppliers in Europe / UK:

I don't mean to sound impertinent or rude to you here, SK, but don't you think it would be better to wait a bit and see exactly what all will be needed to make the JB, rather than just running out and buying parts the moment a Twitter post pops up? Getting these people all incensed and riled up to go buy crap they may or may not need seems kind of ignorant and wasteful. The actual JB procedure hasn't even been released yet, and you're already stocking up.

Look at all the people who rushed out and bought the JB before being patient (yourself included, SK). Now they're already asking for refunds to buy other crap they may or may not need.

Point is? Give them time folks. You've gone four years without the ability to play backups. Whats another week or two? Save yourself some money and aggravation.

Addon to last post: For all we know, they may not released all the needed files/info. Math hasn't always been forthcoming with knowledge gained (LV2 anyone?), and on top of that, you don't yet know what all will be needed/involved. Sure, a $20 breadboard doesn't sound bad. But other components may be needed, such as a programmer, etc etc. When Math posts stuff like the board specs on Twitter, I think he's posting it more for the Dev community's sake than the end user.

So, again I say, BE PATIENT, FOLKS. Unless you just enjoy throwing money around like some high roller.
