February 9, 2012 // 12:20 am - I want to give everyone the heads-up on my Dual Boot PS3 (2 NOR Flashes with Switch for Brick Recovery) project and try and get some feedback...

For the last few days I've been busy unbricking/downgrading etc. The spare time I've had has gone into designing my own Dual NOR expansion board for the PS3

Basics are this: It allows you to install 2 firmwares - one on either NOR which can be easily enabled/disabled via switch on the mod board. Initially the NOR expansion will need flashing (Dump NOR 1 & flash NOR 2 with the image)

Could be used as a "Brick Backup" if for any reason you brick your onboard NOR, you have a second image on the expansion.
Primary use is of course to Dual Boot firmware without needing to use your programmer all the time - initial program would be a one-off.

Can be quite useful, hence the reason for designing it. I am quite aware of the fact there are other products available which function the same. This is my own design which is a fair bit cheaper than the current Dual setups.

Once final thing, please bear in mind this is a VERY early prototype atm and still in testing. More than likely there will be a few changes along the way, but updates will be regular (finally got my head round Cadsoft)

I've attached a 3D sample picture... please share your comments!

Currently I'm using 4 switches to keep the signals seperate. I'll have some more free time this week to carry on with the project so keep checking!

Greetings Mushy409 would like to ask you something, how many switches are needed to make the exchange between memory and the other? How many contacts prevent keep connected without disturbing each other.

Um beautiful work continues fascinate us.

Very soon... There's still a lot to sort out yet, but once everything is done I'm sure the Boss will make it mainpage news. I'll be letting people know closer to the date (TBA yet) Will be looking for Beta testers in the following week - Already have one or 2 people lined up for testing (you know who you are)

Once I'm happy with everything and I'm 10000% sure I'm not going to be bricking anyone's system I'll release the jackpot - Diagrams, tutorials, plenty of colourful pics and maybe a movie showing the install/operation.

Watch this space!

Another quick update on progress! Yes I know it's slow but I'm a busy guy these days making my website, repairs/mods, R&D, PCB designing... There aren't enough hours in the day!

Prototyped and built board v1.0c (others had a few mistakes) which now has a 6-pin FFC connector for external switching of NOR chips (Onboard -/- Addon PCB) Good news is its working lovely Very happy with the progress albeit steady!

Pics attached! Still got LOADS to do yet (v2.0a design to finalise and still waiting on parts)
