To quote: This application has been made by an anonymous person non seeking fame, profit or benefit.

I don't want to cause any damage to the video game industry, but it is not reasonable that these consoles (expensive cost) are constructed like butter and we can not do anything to preserve the health of the lens of our readers (my console model cannot be repaired).

While Sony is rubbing his hands when you send to repair a console and them are dedicated to eliminating original features of the console, as PS3 Other OS and Linux, relying on what they think best for your business and not caring a shit or the feelings of their users or their acquired rights as users and owners of their consoles.

The video-game industry only wants control, oligopoly, money, pursuit of anything that does not benefit their interests and if it is possible, force legal changes using their influence and power while we're just anonymous people we have to endure all the crap on hardware that is passed through a computer, just to avoid taxes.

So I decided to do an experiment: I decided to see if I can make a BACKUP and Homebrew purpose loader (legal in my country), release the source code and waits to see what happens. Maybe someone has the Sony SDK 1.92 and wants to compile, it but that's not my problem.

Obviously, is 'illegal' to build things with the SONY SDK unlicensed but this is only source code

Open Manager has the next features:

• Supports up to 512 items from two USB devices, internal hdd and bluray

• Ability to copy games from bdvd to hdd0 or USB's, from hdd0 to USB's or from USB's to hdd0. It is done asking to you the destination device. It use uses asynchronous reading and writing for fast copy.

• Special support for big files in FAT: it splits files >= 4GB using .666xx fragments (if the file is name.ext, the file splits as name.ext.66600, name.ext.66601,...). This file is not bootable and it is marked using '_' as folder prefix. The file is joining when you copy it to hdd0 device

• Automatically finds the path of the games and asks to you about it. In other case, if the Open Manager is installed in the hdd0 creates one. You can change it pressing L2+START later.

• Including checking game option (pressing L1). It displays information about the files, size, splits or big files, if it have one.

• Support for Homebrew: you can creates "homebrew" folder in root USB FAT device and put here others folders with an EBOOT.BIN (.self format) and one ICON0.PNG. Also you can use the internal hdd0. Homebrew is launched directly and receive the path in argv[0].

• FTP support to upload homebrew: open_manager uses "OMAN46756" as user, by default. I recommend flashfxp to use it, because FTP support is not very good...

NOTE: Open Manager works with Hermes payload update. So,if you return from game list, apps_home can launch games without one disc (some games don't work without any disc), but if you return from Homebrew, apps_home works from usb000.

NOTE 2: You can modify the program as you want, but please, make public the source code.

Yes, it copies the whole disc. Here is how it looks with this .ini:

Hey deanrr! Thanks for your effort! Will your build continue copying the full disc? Jurai2 announced that his releases will no longer copy the update folder. I don't like this idea even though it's just the update. I prefer full dumps.

Waiting for your .ini solution! :-)

The problem with the "missing EBOOT.BIN" when the "Hermes-Peek"-Patch is applied is due to file permissions. blackb0x ftp as well as the one from Sony (CJCP, Open Manager) will set the file permission to 700 for directories and 600 for other files and thus makes them inaccessible when they are accessed by another user. It seems the peek applied somehow changes the context in which the files are accessed.

Setting permissions to 666/777 will in turn allow to access/mount the particular game folders, when the patch is active. This also explains why people have success using external disks as FAT does not support user-based access permissions or when doing wild copy maneuvers like FTP to internal, copy to external (which resets permissions), delete from internal, copy back to internal or when people just have a dump made from BR.

The solution is actually quite simple: Recursively apply permissions 666 to files and 777 to directories.

Here is a simple tool that will set correct permissions to ALL games in LAUN12345: (Source is included, feel free to patch the path to your needs)
The tool will produce no output, just a black screen for a few seconds when changing permissions and will quit afterwards.

And here is a patch to the last source Jurai released, which binds L3 to set the correct permissions to the currently selected game: (The modified main.cpp is included, for the complete source just take the original package from Jurai)

So in "layman-terms":
Variant 1:
Install fixPermissions and run it. IMPORTANT: Patch must be disabled.
Run OM, activate Patch and start game.

Variant 2:
Use my modified Open Manager, select the game with patch disabled and press L3, then press R3 to enable the patch and start the game.

Well, that's the main idea, isn't it. The only requirement would be that the folder you set EXISTS.

About browse+select interactivity - it is doable and if I find time I'll take a look at it, too.

Out of curiosity would it be possible to add a feature such as 'adding the directory via interaction on 1st boot up and using the controller to in put the path or something. Just curious as i use something other than GAMES or VIDEO etc

Not gona happen any time soon (if ever) I'm afraid. Just go ahead and get and format your hard drive in FAT32 ... You can always reformat it later if the miracle happens and PS3 would be able to recognize NTFS formated drives

I'll probably move them at the bottom, too.

A simple options.ini would look like:

[Register or Login to view code]

where you can set the custom folders and whether to start ftp service automatically, to load in patched mode by default and to use the full-background-png as default.

I'll post back when there is some progress.

Deans mod is working fine for me, although i prefer the options at the bottom like in J2`s as oppossed to being mangled in with the screen images.
