September 25, 2012 // 11:05 pm - While everyone is awaiting further details on PlayStation 3 Custom Firmware 4.21 from the Red Power Team, today multiMAN was updated to version 04.06.00 followed by v04.06.01 adding PS3 4.21 CFW support among the changes outlined below.

What's new in multiMAN 04.06.00:

  • multiMAN celebrates 2 years. CONGRATULATIONS!
  • Added support for 4.21CFW (CEX) (syscall 6-10 required):
  • "Standard" BD-Emulator option (sc36) (Hermes not supported yet)
  • Direct Disc Access (LV1&LV2 patched for Storage Manager access)
  • Raw access to optical media (PS1 backups & Showtime access to BD/DVD/CDs)
  • BD-Movie Region Changer
  • BD-Mirror for INT/EXT games

! Not fully tested with Red Power's 4.21CFW (Hermes payload used and syscall 1021 required)

What's new in multiMAN 04.06.01:

  • Added support for 4.21CFW (DEX) (syscalls 6-7 required):
  • "Standard" BD-Emulator option (sc36)
  • BD-Mirror for external / USB games

Finally, below are some related comments on the multiMAN v04.06.00 update as follows:

From Lightyear: multiMAN has supported 4.21 for a LONG time. now it's just CEX 4.21 support... it's really not that different. and deank releasing mm that supports 4.21 does NOT mean a completely 3rd party scene group is working on a new 4.21 CFW! they are not even working with dean... they have their own backup manager, according to their posts. *facepalm*

FWIW, multiman automatically worked on 4.21... dean didn't change anything to make that happen. someone just tested it out and realized it worked. just like PSX support. that was just a native thing that someone just "discovered" was working one day.

From deank: I see no mentions of DEX in the "What's new"/change log, quite the contrary. And - no - the mM update server is not hacked.

I just woke up and read some posts about some chinese shtty dongle for 4.21... Just to make it clear - the mM update has nothing to do with it and doesn't need a dongle if used with 4.21cfw. It is a pure speculation I guess, because there are a lot of people around who won't allow another dongle to surface anyway. I don't believe that their dongle (which I doubt it exists at all) will see the light of any day!

Why do you ask me about their stuff? I don't know any of them nor do I know what they're going to do. Someone leaked a file from their 'promo system' (the eboot.bin they use to launch that old multiMAN version), I took a look at it, I saw what patches they use for 4.21 and implemented some of them in mM and added syscall36. As simple as that - that way nothing is hidden in 'their system/manager' and is available in the regular public mM version. I know for sure that their firmware uses hermes because I saw how the payload and stuff is loaded in that leaked eboot.bin, hence I mentioned it in mM's changelog.

I already posted what I think few pages back. In addition to that - I think it will be a huge mistake if they decide to sell dongles.

I added some additional checks to make mM recognize when it is running on peek/poke-enabled 4.21CFW. Then it adds syscall36 just like it does on 3.55, which means that games should work without patching.

When asked why update MM to a hypothetical 4.21 his reply was quite arrogantly: Because I can, no other reason.

Also from deank when asked why 4.21 CFW support was listed if not fully tested yet: Ah, just don't tell me what and where I should put.

Finally a few weeks later he partially comes clean, revealing what used to be open source code and making the following statement for those interested.

is this fine for rebug rex cfw 3.55.. do i just install it over my old mm or what? not sure exactly what to do.

i am on rebug cfw 3.55.2 i think and upgrading to rex 3.55 and want this mm. thanks for any help guys.

you've got to admit, with the new rebug REx Fw and a ps3 with target id set to 82 , Multiman 04.10.00 just completes a holy trinity and makes the ps3 the best modded console there has ever been.

total freedom to move up, down and even across to cex and back to dex all at the push of a button, and multiman has a way to get any game working you can throw at it.

multiman 04.10.00 has to be the best homebrew ever written, and to totally get the most out of a wide variety and choice of cfw. ps1 disc backups when used wuth rebug rex in dex mode, now thats got to be a tempter for anyone. no dongle required.

wonder if ps2 backups might come later ? (doubtful, but you got to always want more than you got lol)

Following up on the Rebug 3.55.3 / 4.21.1 PS3 CFW REX Editions, this weekend PlayStation 3 developer deank has updated multiMAN to v04.10.00 which includes PS3 Rebug (REX) support alongside the changes outlined below.

Below are the changes, as follows:

  • Added support for direct-disc-access for 4.21REX CFW in DEX/DEX mode (data CD/DVD/BD discs)
  • Added support for flashing 256MB NAND *.EID0.NANDBIN backups
  • Users with broken BD drives can use 4.21REX in DEX mode with fake BDEMU stick/image for 100% game compatibility

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you're using DEX mode in 4.21REX, use this CEX version of mM (do not install the reguar DEX mM which is only for official dex firmwares).

This package also includes:

  • Rebug Toolbox 02.00.00
  • c2d + openssl


It is to help users with broken BD-ROM drives (which have a working logic board and married to the PS3). A lot of games have issues when started from /app_home or using "Direct Boot", that's why this is the BEST solution for such users. You will have to be on 4.21CFW REBUG (REX) with DEX Target ID flash and DEX LV2 Kernel (full DEX MODE).

From the ReadMe file: If you do not want to waste a whole USB HDD you can use a small 512MB USB STICK to emulate your broken BD-ROM.


  • PC and PS3
  • USB stick/drive (512MB minimum size)
  • Disc Image Generator Software (ps3gen)
  • PLAYSTATION3.iso Dummy BDEMU image
  • 4.21CFW REBUG (REX) operating in DEX mode with DEX lv2_kernel (FULL DEX MODE)
  • Connect a USB HDD to be used for BDEMU
  • Start "Disc Image Generator for Playstation3" (ps3gen)
  • Click "Show" button in the top right-hand corner
  • Click "Select File..." button
  • Locate and select "PLAYSTATION3.iso" provided in this archive
  • Click "Save / Emu ..." button
  • Select "Write Image to BD Emulator HDD"
  • Select your BDEMU USB HDD
  • Pick a slot from the list and click "Write Image"

On your PS3 with 4.21REX CFW and multiMAN 04.10.00 installed:

  • Install "Rebug Toolbox 02.00.00" and launch it
  • In DEX/CEX: Flash your DEX EID0 NOR/NAND file (DEX-FLASH.EID0.NORBIN or DEX-FLASH.EID0.NANDBIN file on /dev_usb000 stick)
  • Quit Toolbox and reboot your PS3
  • In XMB "Settings" go to "Debug Settings" and set "Blu-ray Disc Access" option to "BD Emulator (USB)"
  • Turn off your PS3
  • Connect the BDEMU USB HDD drive/stick to the right-most port (/dev_usb000) - the port closest to the BD-ROM drive
  • Turn on your PS3
  • You should see "PLAYSTATION(R)3" Game Disc mounted in XMB Game column
  • Start multiMAN 04.10.00+, load a game from internal HDD or external USB HDD connected to another port. Do not unplug the BDEMU USB drive.
  • Start your game from the Disc Icon in XMB.

Done. In the pictures below you can see how it looks when you boot your PS3 with the dummy disc game, if you start it and if you mount a game with mM (Assassin's Creed III used as example) and check XMB

Hi all, does anyone know how to change the default font in MultiMan TMB (Top Media Bar) menu??

it is even possible?? I search and nothing came up for this.

Retail (CFW 3.55) is CEX, but this update (the Full Pack) also includes DEX which is for non-Retail (Debug) consoles... so yes, you would be fine using the CEX version of multiMAN.
