139w ago - While everyone is awaiting further details on PlayStation 3 Custom Firmware 4.21 from the Red Power Team, today multiMAN was updated to version 04.06.00 followed by v04.06.01 adding PS3 4.21 CFW support among the changes outlined below.

What's new in multiMAN 04.06.00:

  • Direct Disc Access (LV1&LV2 patched for Storage Manager access)

From Lightyear: multiMAN has supported 4.21 for a LONG time. now it's just CEX 4.21 support... it's really not that different. and deank releasing mm that supports 4.21 does NOT mean a completely 3rd party scene group is working on a new 4.21 CFW! they are not even working with dean... they have their own backup manager, according to their posts. *facepalm*

FWIW, multiman automatically worked on 4.21... dean didn't change anything to make that happen. someone just tested it out and realized it worked. just like PSX support. that was just a native thing that someone just "discovered" was working one day.

From deank: I see no mentions of DEX in the "What's new"/change log, quite the contrary. And - no - the mM update server is not hacked.

I just woke up and read some posts about some chinese shtty dongle for 4.21... Just to make it clear - the mM update has nothing to do with it and doesn't need a dongle if used with 4.21cfw. It is a pure speculation I guess, because there are a lot of people around who won't allow another dongle to surface anyway. I don't believe that their dongle (which I doubt it exists at all) will see the light of any day!

Why do you ask me about their stuff? I don't know any of them nor do I know what they're going to do. Someone leaked a file from their 'promo system' (the eboot.bin they use to launch that old multiMAN version), I took a look at it, I saw what patches they use for 4.21 and implemented some of them in mM and added syscall36. As simple as that - that way nothing is hidden in 'their system/manager' and is available in the regular public mM version. I know for sure that their firmware uses hermes because I saw how the payload and stuff is loaded in that leaked eboot.bin, hence I mentioned it in mM's changelog.

I already posted what I think few pages back. In addition to that - I think it will be a huge mistake if they decide to sell dongles.

I added some additional checks to make mM recognize when it is running on peek/poke-enabled 4.21CFW. Then it adds syscall36 just like it does on 3.55, which means that games should work without patching.

When asked why update MM to a hypothetical 4.21 his reply was quite arrogantly: Because I can, no other reason.

Also from deank when asked why 4.21 CFW support was listed if not fully tested yet: Ah, just don't tell me what and where I should put.

Finally a few weeks later he partially comes clean, revealing what used to be open source code and making the following statement for those interested.

Also available online and in the WEB column for those who want to test PS2 Classics. What I added to mM is just a simple function to link the iso.bin.enc files to the placeholder app. Whatever it requires is not changed. I don't have any ps2 classics to test anything. mM already has a PS1+PS2 database of almost 4000 covers (already available in the FULL version and online), hence few lines to link the encrypted isos to the placeholders. The haters are barking at the wrong tree.

You need PS2 Classics Placeholder R2 (PS2_Classics_Placeholder_R2.rar by CaptainCPS-X) installed and your ps2 classics in /dev_hdd0/PS2ISO as subfolders. It is also available for download in mM's WEB column.

If you don't have memory-cards, mM will create them for you under SAVEDATA subfolder in the game folder.

Use the following structure format:

/dev_hdd0/PS2ISO/Test Game (simple naming format - no cover download)
/dev_hdd0/PS2ISO/Test Game/ISO.BIN.ENC
/dev_hdd0/PS2ISO/Test Game/COVER.JPG (not mandatory, but if present will have higher priority than downloaded covers)

Basically you only need the ISO.BIN.ENC and nothing else:

and mM will show "MyPS2Classic" disc icon in the RETRO column. If you name your folder with the game-id, mM will download the cover. If you put "COVER.JPG" next to the iso, mM will use it instead. That's it.

Following up on his previous release, this weekend PlayStation 3 developer IngPereira has made available PS2Classic Final with source code for playing PS2 Classic games on the PS3 entertainment system.

Now it doesn't need root key to vmc stuff and now vmc decryption and encryption is working great, added ISO9660 checks and LIMG check and creation. Thanks to flatz, aldo and many others.

It will rehash every change in the blocks and now it should work. About encrypting and decrypting ISO.BIN.ENC or CONFIG nothing changes about user commands because all the change was internal, so is the same.

If you don't want to use this cmd version is better to wait to the new version of Aldo Gui tool because it will have this added and some better gui improvements. Thanks to flatz, aldo and many others helping in the process.

Here also included something for those who want to modify or ripearlas isos more easily and are functional in the PS3. The process is very easy and simple using Expert 1.3 since the 2.0 version tends to have flaws with these images ISO9660 corrupting and ends.

Ripping or modification of any PS2 game

1. Crack the ps2classic ISO.BIN.ENC with great command line or GUI aldo.
2. Expert Runs 1.03 and continues to work the following order:

  • Extract LBA
  • Extract files (It will extract every file from the game in a folder with the iso name)

Now you can make your changes to the game(But obviusly you cannot just delete stuff because the LBA has an order you need to make some dummy file and rename it to the file you want to delete for example), you can mod everything too if the game have some modding tools for sure like gta sa, vc, etc.

  • Rebuild files (Now it will make a ISO with the game folder extracted previusly modified)
  • Rebuild LBA

3. Just encrypt that Game ISO modified with new tools like this new ps2classic command line tool or with new Aldo gui Ps2classic tool with new changes (Because this tools will now remake the LIMG section too). Now use the new ISO.BIN.ENC on the PS3 and check your changes.

PS2 ISO Renaming Tool for PS2classic v 1.0 - PS3Classic: To encrypt PS2 ISO to PS2Classic image.

The best way to play your PS2 games on your PS3 console is to convert them into PS2 Classic Games. With Multiman and PS2Classic container, you can have unlimited PS2ISOs loaded into your PS3. With [gameID] Game Title naming convention, Multiman will download the game cover if avaliable.

This tool finds gameID from within PS2ISO, and compare with online database to rename the ISO file names

This script works with ps2classic command line tool to make it more convenience to convert mass ISOs.

To rename ISO file with sonyindex.com database entry, in '[DISCID] FILENAME' format

ALL: in a folder to process every ISO under that folder, including subfolders. It will move ISO files to current folder, and re-name iso filenames against the database entries.

Hey guys, been gone for a while. Just wanted to say I ripped my copy of The Bouncer (PS2), used Odin Sphere PSN release as a base, and using this guide, and am now playing it on my Rebug 4.30.2 slim! Thanks for the guide!

Will test with my Fatal Frame 2 backup and update...

Well, Fatal Frame 2 works as well. This is exciting! I might test a couple more games from my PS2 library, but this is pretty cool so far. Definitely will extend the life of my phat, although the emulation doesn't seem perfect - does anyone know how to brighten up the screen a bit?

Tried FFXII IZJS patched english iso and it didn't work, though it does in PCSX2... that was one of the main games Ive been wanting to play, oh well.

Guess I'll go through the gundam games next and see how/if they work.

I have tried to boot SwapMagic DVD 3.6 and of course it didn't work, it just kick me back to XMB. It would be great if someone can port the OSDSYS environment to the ps2_netemu (as was done for TN-V on PSVita). Instead games like Dark Cloud (PAL version) works perfectly.
