275w ago - A few weeks back GeoHot Hacked PS3, and now a new patent has surfaced from Kanna Shimizu of IBM for a method to protect secrets against encrypted section attacks.

SKFU writes: It seems it is SONY's answer for GeoHot's progress.

Take a look here, to quote: "A method, system, and computer-usable medium are disclosed for controlling unauthorized access to encrypted application program code. Predetermined program code is encrypted with a first key.

The hash value of an application verification certificate associated with a second key is calculated by performing a one-way hash function. Binding operations are then performed with the first key and the calculated hash value to generate a third key, which is a binding key.

The binding key is encrypted with a fourth key to generate an encrypted binding key, which is then embedded in the application. The application is digitally signed with a fifth key to generate an encrypted and signed program code image.

To decrypt the encrypted program code, the application verification key certificate is verified and in turn is used to verify the authenticity of the encrypted and signed program code image. The encrypted binding key is then decrypted with a sixth key to extract the binding key.

The hash value of the application verification certificate associated with the second key is then calculated and used with the extracted binding key to extract the first key. The extracted first key is then used to decrypt the encrypted application code."

to tell the true.... I'm interesting in iso loader.... I'll say a lay if I say not but... I have to say that for me is now more important have the video card (RSX) unlocked under linux. if sony will do it by her own (very difficoult but never say never) I'll be very happy too..

I have 2 PS3 60 gb , and I'm very happy to have them, this 2 machine have linux installed (ubuntu 9.10,yellow dog 6.2) and do their job very well but with the RSX for sure I can start to dream.

these fews of words are for say that game for PS3 for me are not so important cause PS3 offer many other things maybe most important, this FOR ME is the reason why Sony not provide in linux support of video card in the PS3 phat and in the PS3 Slim remove totally otheros.

Good to know. At least they are sharing some secrets with us. What else Kanna which we don't know yet...

If the the encrypt to encrypt thng is true then why not just use one of the apps on the ps3 to execute unsigned code?

Nah, nobody is fighting here... to quote from GeoHot's own blog comment:

Why the hell would I care about playing iso files? I don't even play games on my PS3.

Similar to GeoHot, most of the Devs (and many users) here aren't interested in playing games on the PS3 either. Hard to believe, eh? I don't play them, CJPC doesn't play them, etc.

We're all seeking to learn as much as we can from GeoHot and everyone else who examines the HV dumps and is willing to share their findings with others in the scene.

Now, go do it. Chop chop. You'll find knowing that really doesn't help you much. The whole point of the blog post wasn't the theory, it was that I had actually done it.

For example, theres probably a black hole at the center of the galaxy. It's a widely accepted theory, no clue who came up with it, but some still don't believe it. Now if you were writing a blog post saying you'd been there and seen it...

Ok, I'm done feeding the trolls. Honestly whats up with this whole post, desperate for news?

Well, not being a "Dev" myself I had to ask one of the Devs here who replied with "that's hellova obvious" that lv2ldr loads lv2_kernel.self

Contrary to popular belief, most people here would like to read about what's left out of your blog... the stuff you intentionally? tend to leave as "an exercise to the reader" which basically translates to other Devs (and the scene, minus the elite group of "30 Devs" Mathieulh has proclaimed here: lan.st/showpost.php?p=16190&postcount=4) as "I'm not sharing."

As for the news post, it was made by SKFU and posted here by a user but I admit I personally did find it coincidental. The "desperate for news" post will be the one where we report on that the guy from your blog who leaked the HV dump today ripping on us but using our code to do it I suppose.

Umm, the iso SPUs doing the crypto is common knowledge. It's true the purpose of metldr was explained to me, but whats your point? Now actually making them do it... well thats a different story. Good luck
