233w ago - Below is a guide I wrote on PSX-Scene (linked above) and here on PS3News how to get Call of Duty: Black Ops working with PS3 JailBreak on PlayStation 3 Firmware 3.41.

Today a copy of Black Ops arrived "in the usual places" and it required 3.50 to play.

JonahUK pointed out that when the EBOOT.BIN was viewed with a hex editor it showed it was compiled with the 3.40 SDK meaning it was debug update time!!!

I extracted the EBOOT.BIN file and PRAM.SFO from the 1.02 debug update modified them and made a pack here: CODBO.rar / Mirror #1 / Mirror #2 / Mirror #3 / Mirror #4 / Mirror #5 / Mirror #6 / Mirror #7 / New Pack With All SFO Regions / New Pack With All SFO Regions #2 / New Pack With All SFO Regions #3 / Black Ops Pack 1.3

Here is a tutorial to get the game working:

(make sure you backup all your files first in case you do something wrong)

Step 1: Download the files and go to where you put your game and edit your pram.sfo to say 3.40 with PS3SFOEdit.

EXAMPLE OF WHERE YOU MAY HAVE PUT YOUR GAME:

dev_HDD0/GAME/LAUN12345/BLxxxxx/PS3_GAME/HERE!

or

USB:/GAMEZ/BLxxxxx/PS3_GAME/HERE

Step 2: Update the game to 1.02 using the retail update for your region.

Step 3: After your update has finished, open comgenie or ftp and go to:

dev_hdd0/GAME/"Blackops"/PS3_GAME and put the eboot in the pack here

To clarify, in other words: dev_hdd0/GAME/"Blackops"(BLxxxxx)/USRDIR and put the eboot in the pack here

Step 4: Go to dev_hdd0/GAME/"Blackops"/PS3_GAME/USRDIR

Now if you have the BLES01032 version just use the SFO.PRAM file inc in my pack and place it in that directory overwriting the old one.

If you have another version of the game use PS3SFOEdit to edit your sfo to say 3.40 in advanced edit. SAVE IT then replace it.

To clarify, in other words: go to dev_hdd0/GAME/"Blackops"(BLxxxxxx)/ and copy the sfo.pram file to your pc.

To edit the sfo file use the sfoeditor i've inc in my pack click load and choose your PRAM.SFO file.

Click Advanced Edit where it says 3.5000 change this to say 3.4000 and press ok. press save and save it to the desktop or somewhere you will be able to see it easy. now either put it on a usb drive and copy it back with comgenie or ftp it back to the folder it came from.

Step 5: Double check everything, Then play.

The next part comes from hunter128 from here and seems to only apply if you have run the game previously and been prompted to update.

After you install the pkg launch a FTP server and go to /dev_hdd0/mms/db/ and search a file called metadata_db_hdd open it in a hex editor and search 3.50, and change to 3.41

REBOOT OR YOU WILL GET EITHER A ERROR OR BLACK SCREEN.

Big thanks to teh reaper for testing this and confirming it working on external and internal HDD.

Also it seems that multiplayer freezes at the moment, but campaign and zombies works fine!

Update: To get MP working you can try This Method by netkas or use This Alternate Method by MexN00B.

This is the way that works atm I'm sure there will probably be a simpler way soon.

hi guys, ive been trying to get the game to boot for a couple of days now, its been driving me crazy, i've gone through the instructions several times, and this is the furthest i've gotten so far. What happens is when i try to boot the game it just goes straight to a black screen, it doesn't ask me to update though.

The last few times a i recieved a bad data or supported data. Could someone please shed some light on the problem, i have read through this thread somewhat, however i do not have the time to read through all 32 pages.

Hey guys,

I'm stuck with a problem on CoD black ops BLES01031. When I try to run the game I get error 8001003E: To play this game, you must insert the following disc. Insert the disc and start the game again.

Here are the steps that I followed:

1. using ftp I copied the game in open manager Gamez folder
2. update the game
3. edit the param.sfo to say it 3.40 with PS3SFOEdit
4. put Eboot bin in CoD Usdir folder
5.edit metadata_db_hdd with hex editor and change 3.50 to 3.40
6. reboot

When I launch the game, error 8001003E pops up. So any any suggestions?

Thanks man, your instructions worked perfectly. I too didn't notice the slight difference in folder names (game vs GAMEZ), I also copied the same param.sfo file to both folders (thinking they were the same file!), so I deleted the update folder and reinstalled the update and manually updated the param.sfo files from 3.5 to 3.4. Plus I didn't delete the file you mentioned, so was always being prompted to update to 3.5!

I had no luck for 7 days with black ops, until an hour ago when I used the ce-x hex. Then it worked. No more black screen rubbish. Anyone having constant frustration with the black screen try the ce-x hex and you might be happy with the result like I was.

You don't need anything on the PS3 internal hard drive as in no update data of any kind needs to be there, as long as you used the drag and drop 1.02 fix first, you then use the 1.03 (both are not the sony patches but user released ones that fixed mp) fix and just overwrite the files where ever you have the game dump stored... as in the GAMEZ folder.

I was working just fine this way for 2 days with nunracer's first patch for 1.02... nothing installed on hard drive at all and it worked fine online and single player...

Then after 1.03 I used the drag and drop 1.03 fix which got back in game and MP and the issue was that sometimes I would get kicked after it said waiting for other players.

Then sony patched PSN and we can't get online now cause of the requested system update...
