September 27, 2011 // 2:28 pm - Following up on his Guide to Remarry PS3 Blu-ray Drives to other consoles, today PlayStation 3 developer Mark Webber has shared another on how to recover Blu-ray drive playback on 256MB FAT PS3 consoles.

To quote: Ok, so finally....

How To Recover BD Playback On 256meg Fats

  • You will need to QA flag your PS3
  • IF you are on 3.55: Using the special 3.55 downgrade PUP by Jaicrab, then down again to 3.15 or 3.41 using stock PUP files
  • Follow this guide to QA flag your PS3

By ps3nemesis: (EASY QA FLAG INSTALL)

NOTE BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT THIS OR ANY MOD TO PS3 FILE STRUCTURE PLEASE BACK-UP YOR dev_flash 2 FOLDER AND THE WHOLE OF dev_hdd0/home AS THIS IS WHERE YOUR PSN / DLC/ PSONE LICENCES ARE KEPT. ALSO MAKE AN EXTRA BACK-UP OF dev_hdd0/home/act.dat .

PLEASE ALSO BE AWARE THAT SOME PEOPLE ARE STATING THAT THE TROPHY SYSTEM GETS MESSED UP !!! FOOLS RUSH IN...

Note: Only works on Otheros++ 3.55 or 3.41 CFW at the moment, so you'll have to reflash to it, then go back to your cfw's (i.e 3.55 CFW > Otheros++ > QA Flag > 3.55 CFW )

Requirements / Installation Instructions:

  • PS3 on OtherOS++ 3.55 CFW PUP
  • Rename it to PS3UPDAT.PUP
  • Install the firmware
  • QA Auto Flag .PKG
  • Install the qa_flag.pkg
  • Then run the qa_flag program
  • If you hear a beep, it worked.
  • Restart ps3
  • Go to network settings (Do not enter it) and hit or hold L1+L2+L3+R1+R2+down on the dpad
  • QA auto flagging is now done
  • Turn on the 'system update debug' in the debug settings
  • Play a BD disc with the highest MKB version you can get..Latest release from Blockbuster or whatever.

Note: It may start to play and then you get no video output to the tv. This happened a few times to me. Just power off, accept the "naughty boy" messgage from Sony and try again until it plays.

If it keeps doing this, you need to change to AV or component leads since your TV seems to not be 100% HDMI/BD compliant. I have tested this on several (at least 5) PS3's with 100% success rate.

I got a pink "NG" like the picture below. What does that mean and how do I fix it?

Thanks for this tidbit of information! I've got another drive on its way and will have to try this when it arrives! I had a bad laser so they are replacing it for me and will then try the process again.

The only blu-ray film that I put the console before upgrading to CFW was the original blu-ray (Queen Rock Montreal & Live Aid). I still have it!

How can I generate drl files? Tutorial?

Thanks

I solve the problem! My ps3 can play all my Blu-rays!!!

I used the DRLTools (DRLGen): http://www.ps4news.com/PS3-Hacks-JailBreak/drltools-drlgen-v0-90-easy-ps3-blu-ray-playback-fix-arrives/

And used FTP to backup and copy the DRL files!

this remarries the drive to the console - it does NOT create the drl files (files required to play blu ray movies) so if your drl files are different then you get that error and there is no direct fix for it unless you know the blu ray movies played in the drive. (drl gen can make drl files if you know the details about what discs have been played by the drive however if you are like me and don't have this information then your stuffed.)

theres a pkg tool for devs that will only run on jfw 3.56 ma that can get the information from the drive about which discs it has run however i don't fancy being locked to 3.56 forever so i, like most others, am going to have to live without bluray playback for a while longer.

Hello

This method does not work for me

I made the following steps:

1. Put the console in service/factory mode (I use ps3key for that) and turn off the console.
2. Put the USB Mass Storage with the files that are inside the file "remarry-3.55.rar" and the pup (official firmware

With the PS3 still in Factory Service Mode, you want to have your thumb drive in port 0. Turn off the PS3, switch the off switch then back on, then press Power and Eject quickly. This will run the Remarry process. The disc drive light should flash in a series three times then stop. After this, your drive will be remarried.

Hello I have a couple of questions in regards to the Blu-Ray Drive Remarry Process that maybe someone can answer.

I picked up a spare CECHG01 40GB Phat PS3 Unit with a bad bluray drive and the seller provided me with the original BluRay Drive board. I got the typical error message when trying to upgrade to KMEAW 3.55 CFW without the BD Board so I connected that and I was able to upgrade successfully. I'm currently on 3.55 KMEAW CFW and loaded up Multiman and also installed some test games that I could install from a pkg. Everything works great.

Purchased a BluRay Drive from Ebay with working laser and still has a warranty and when I installed I made sure that all the cables were secure and cliped down correctly. I insert a cd and the cd indicator spins in the XMB but I get no CD indicator appear. Would this be because I haven't married the drive?

I have the Service Mode pkg installed and that works correctly and I am able to get into service mode and exit correctly. I am not sure how to execute/run the marry process when in service mode from the thumb drive once in the service mode. Keep in mind I am using a seperate thumb drive to try and execute this but am puzzled by step 5 in the instructions which states "Put the created USB Mass Storage device from step 3 into port 0 (closest to the reader) and Run" What exactly am I having to run because I goto the install package folder and no pkg's appear in there under factory service mode. Would it be the power and eject during startup prior to Service mode?

I am basically wanting to make sure that my problem is just not being able to marry the drive with the existing board or if I could possibly have a bad bluray drive and would need to return. I've heard mention of the ribbon cable being a culprit at times but I really don't beleive this to be the case. It appears connected in correctly.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

It's a step in the good direction...

Still useless if you don't have a 3.55 console...

Nice to see they're still going at it, shame I can't get it to work still. While in service mode after running the remarry program, it still tells me my system is not authorize for BD playback. Anyone with some insight here?
