November 22, 2010 // 3:06 am - Today NZHawk has shared on his blog (linked above) what he calls a little find, specifically how to place PS3 apps into different PlayStation 3 XMB categories.

To quote: "Well I was talking to DarkHacker about param.sfo files and that. He asked me to try changing the CATAGORY string to 'HM' and see what it did.

It made the package install under the PlayStation Network catagory on the XMB. DarkHacker and I then worked out the rest of the catagories that its possible to install and run hombrew applications to the XMB, and found them all except Users, Settings and Friends (which all seem to be filled with the XML files in the VSH flash folder).

String / Category
HM / Playstation Network
CB / Network
HG / Game
AV / Video
AM / Music
AP / Photo
AT / TV

I thought this was quite interesting, and would be great if we could add a Hombrew catagory to the xmb and make all hombrew apps install under it to make some hombrew standard, much like the wii has. (Also has anyone though about making a database of hombrew Title IDs to keep track?)

Oh, and its possible to change this location after install via application settings."

Thanks to PSGroove for the news tip and to Jes03 for posting this a few days ago HERE!

No its even easier than that, there is no jailbreak or file editing required.

Just press triangle on any game or homebrew, go to information, then go to album, write whatever you want here, that is the folder your app/game is now in when you press square to sort games into folders. if you write the same for a few apps/games they end up in same folder/group.

I've also got my Homebrew,PS1 Classics ans PSN game folders within my game category, much tidier, I've all my kids video done the same way, seperate groups for movies , different tv shows etc. a handy feature that does not require any jailbreak and not evryone knows about!

+ rep jes, How do we get the TV category to appear, just modify the xml or do rcos need editing too?

I've already got 3 items in TV as I have the PlayTV and here in Aus we also have ABCview and Yahoo7.

For the US as you don't have the PlayTV I'm not sure?

Yea true but any way nice to see that other peoples also trieng to do something. I was lazy the last days but this and some other things give me a reason to work the next hours to finally do what others try to do.

Maybe some one will beat me?

Jes03, I saw this and was like...wait, this wasn't something 'tested' the other day... it was definitive from you in the MFW thread.

At least they aren't posted in the same order, I can definitely imagine they reinvented the wheel on this one by themselves. At least its not something huge like decrypting a master key...
