231w ago - Today Polyphony Digital's Gran Turismo 5 is making its rounds on the Internet by release group DComics, while PS3 JailBreak users are working on how to get it running without updating the PlayStation 3 console to 3.50 Firmware as required by the title.

The full US release name is Gran.Turismo.5.PS3-DComics and the game weighs in at 19.4GB (20,882,698,502 bytes) in size unpacked for those wondering (packed at 19515.8MB), with the leaked European version coming in at 13.72GB in size.

According to the NFO File, the following important note states: "To play the game you need to spoof your fw as 3.5 with one of the payloads available in net."

There is also now another scene release named Gran.Turismo.5.EUR.JB.PS3-PEMA in which the NFO File states the following: "Spoofed firmware 3.5 required" and under Install Notes: "Unrar files and copy gamedir dir to external harddrive or use some PS3 FTP server. Files must be placed in the GAMEZ folder."

Although there have been a few reports of it working they are unconfirmed thus far, with most currently reporting getting a black screen or error 80028F08 that the data is corrupted when editing the PARAM.SFO file and using various PS3 payloads and Open Managers applications.

The US release version (BCUS-98114) was compiled with PS3 SDK 3.50 while the Euro leaked version (BCES-00569) of the game was compiled with PS3 SDK version 3.30, however, many users believe until a Debug Patch Update surfaces (as opposed to a 403/404 error) PS3 JailBreak users may have to hold off playing it.

As always, we'll update this article when a JailBroken PS3 GT5 fix or work-around arrives.

I'm upgrading to the 3.5 firmware for my newly acquired GT5 as I'm a fanatic GT fan. My ps3break 1.2 dongle is temporary offline Hopefully, someone out there can comes up with a hack.

Then put in the drive with GT5 on it again? would it ask to format the drive with GT5 as its already formatted to the unique ps3ID? I know this wouldn't work on a slim, as it stores a portion of the firmware on the HD, but the fat ps3 doesn't...

Does it sound like it could work anyone?

idk where you heard that, the fat stores some firmware files on it's HDD also (see hdd0://vsh, etc), but anyways even if you did do that, it still would not work. all that would do is install the gt5 gamedata to the hard disc but if you went to load the gt5 disc it would not work because the eboot.bin would still not be able to decrypt on 3.41 firmware.

you try swap HDD disks it could work, it should be easy from there.. just use a hex editor from there i think it could work.

that is one of the most logical posts i've seen. seriously, right now and for a while this is the only way to play it.

like he said there will be an open source downgrader sometime and when it's available, you can use that.

just bought the game and upgrading as soon as i have it, theres a downgrader for psjailbreak and probably will come some free solution any week now, might as well upgrade and play the game then downgrade if you want it back.

eventually there will probably be a cfw sometime...

I hope to get this game running on my Debug PS3 ASAP, just waiting to buy it as 3.41 debug firmware has only just been released.

This is so hard as this game is the reason I got a PS3 to begin with never expecting it to take this long to come out and then so hard to get running on a debug system.

Patience is required, but I'm fighting the urge to buy a regular PS3 and the game because I can't wait.

Forget it ! We can hope and wait for an CFW with 3.50 keys inside, that's the way to get it to work without updating.

what about a custom eboot? they did it with CoD BO so why won't it work with GT5??

Let alone, again - it wont work. It's been confirmed that they changed the crypto keys after 3.42 or so, so even if you succeeded in copying the files over (or, swapping the HDD, which wouldn't work due to the whole per-box-hdd stuff) it would still fail to boot since the PS3 could not decrypt the eboot.
