November 1, 2011 // 1:20 pm - Following up on our initial release, we (Tidusnake666, Tobster7, Alexmagno) have now finally been able to fix Disgaea 4 Translation dialogue bugs.

That means, that apart from some menu entries, the game is all in English text (we decided to exclude sound patching option, because it's still asynched, so you'll have Japanese voices - if you don't like them - turn them off )

Yeah, you've read it right, now everyone can enjoy story! Dialogues, items, skills, pretty much everything is translated!

0. Make a backup of your Disgaea 4 JAP game (BLJS-10095), and place it somewhere, preferably on the root of the drive (there's no spacebar nor special chars problems, but it's more convinient this way), i.e - "C:\BLJS10095"

1. Donwload patcher (Pre-beta version) , extract it somewhere and run D4Trans.exe.

2. Ensure "Translate EBOOT" is checeked and the default START.DAT patching method is checked ("1: Glyphicate all"). Later, if you'll have some troubles you can always repatch it.

3. CLick "START!" and choose location of your Disgaea 4 dump. Patcher has a lot of fool-proff functions, so it won't accidently patch the wrong version or mess your game

NOTE: backups will be created: "START.OLD" and "EBOOT.OLD" (If you choose to patch it). Please, do NOT delete them, it may be required in future, although you can always dump your game once again.

4. Wait till everything finishes, and you'll get "Done!" message. You can now copy your game back and play it partially in English!

4* If you want English cutscenes and Main Menu, you may overwrite your's Japanese "ANM.DAT", ANM_HI.DAT", "BG.DAT", "BU.DAT", "Dis3_0.dat" with US version equivalents (if you happen to also have an US version of the game)

0: DO NOT PATCH - No patching to START.DAT will be made;
1: Glyphicate all - Default and recommended option. Best if you're starting a new game. If you have already played alpha version of this patch and would like to play with existing save (continue playing), please note, that you *may* experience some bugs (untested), although we tried hard that you won't. If you see some, please, report and repatch to one of the options below.
2: Glyphicate only talk.dat - use it if you have troubles with options above, or you want to be on the completely safe side when continuing playing from the old saves. Apart from talk.dat, other files remain as they were in alpha version.
3: SJIS-patch talk.dat - Select this if modified fonts gives crashes or freezes. All chars from talk.dat will be substituted by SJIS equivalents. Apart from talk.dat, other files remain as they were in alpha version.
4: Use alpha-version files - Uses old good alpha version files with most of the bugs fixed. Use it if the above options give you constant crashes.

NOTE: If you haven't saw any changes after patching the game, please reboot PS3, start any BD-Game (to clear the game cache) till the main menu, exit and try to load Disgaea 4 again.

NOTE2: It's still WIP, if you know/want to help us, or just say "thanks!" please do so at, we'll be glad!

SPECIAL THANKS to Kazekeil (for his helping hand in translation), Bakaboy (for awesome D4Pack), leenfox and necroziel (for some file translations).

- None for now, except some portions of the menu not translated.

Just fyi, finally beat the game and installed the DLC and patch 1.20. The DLC works fine (aside form negating the translation), but it's only the first pack, so unless you're a big fan of adell and rozalin, it's not really worth negating the patch for. Sucks, I REALLY wanted to play with a team of Zetta, Gig, Tyrant Val, Krichecskoy, and Nisa.

Is this just me, or the translations patch aren't working with the Disgaea 4 Cheats PKG ? The money works fine, but the max mana aren't working.. someone already tested it?

Is this a bug in the translation or the game itself? Whenever I deal six digit damage (over 100k), the numbers that display over the character get compressed and overlap so I can really only make out the first two digits and the last digit. The damage display on the bottom left of the screen is fine though. It's no big deal, it doesn't really affect gameplay, just a minor annoyance I guess.

Also, has anyone noticed in Chara World sometimes objects or characters won't get killed when they run out of health? The object or character still occupies a space on the board (although you can still throw stuff into that space), but they have 0 health and don't act (and can't be attacked) and the map will still end when killing the rest of the enemies.

thanks Noshi, I hadn't made a save file yet, soI'll give that a try; though I think Itachi's prolly right in that it's the eboot that's the problem. In that case, I'll just go with your suggestion and activate DLC during postgame.

Does a save game work from going English translation -> patch 1.20? Since the DLC only works in post-game anyway, maybe you could just play the game with the translation and then patch install DLC once you get to post game.

I think no because the translation uses and translates the eboot and the patch 1.20 will make the eboot like an original one. I'm not sure 100% maybe there is a way so wait for another answer.

Hello! I just made an account just to say THANK YOU GUYS!!! Installed the patch today, and it looks awesome! If anyone would be kind enough to link me to where I can find the required files for translating the cutscenes, it would be much appreciated

Alright, now I'm having an annoying problem. I tracked down a copy of the US version; replaced the files specified for the cutscenes, and now the game is only playing in Japanese. Everything is in Japanese again.

In order: I just installed the pkg. files for the 1.20 patch and the fixed dlc characters. Then I replaced the five files in the translated copy of D4, loaded it up, got japanese cutscenes and story. Tried clearing my game cache and re-translating w/the US files installed, still Japanese.

So, what happened? Is the translator incompatible with the patch/dlc? I downloaded those from the DUPLEX thread on this site btw.

*Edit: >< ach, once more I find the answer myself. Apparently, it was the patch interfering with the translation. As soon as I deleted patch 1.20, the translation was perfect. so I guess that means no DLC huh? Did anyone get the translation working side by side with DUPLEX's fixed Disgaea 4 dlc?

Is there any place that has translations of the untranslated portions of this patch? Like the contents of the Data Shop or the menu in the Chara World.

Also, I know there's some mana and HL pkg cheats floating around, but are there any for CP? Since we can't play online, there's gotta be a way of cheating in some CP so we can truly experience the full game.
