Today is a good day for Atelier-series fans! Similar to Disgaea 4 PS3 translation patch released earlier, Tidusnake666 on PS3 News has updated his work in progress and now shared a PS3 translation v0.1 of the Japanese version of Atelier Totori: The Alchemist of Arland 2.

Few thing to note before reading on:

  • Translation was done with Microsoft Translator API based program, so sometimes it, frankly saying, doesn't make sense. But, story messages are natively (officially) English, although there're some padding problems, but they do make sense.
  • Pretty much everything (skills, side-dialogues, locations, names, items, ingredients, even bestiary and much more) was parsed in translation, but approx.10% of text remained untranslated with original Japanese words. But I'm sure you can figure it out
  • Voice acting will be in Japanese (cons of Japanese EBOOT)
  • The game is fully untested, so there may be crashes, although I checked everything byte-by-byte.
  • If you don't like it, do it better!

Instructions:

0. Obtain both JP (BLJM60241) and US (BLUS30735) version dumps of the game. Delete any game data on PS3 you have (you can leave your saves) We'll be using US version as a base.
1. Replace US folder "PS3_GAME\USRDIR\Res\Sound" with the equivalent Japanese one.
2. Replace US folders "EventCheck" and "Eventprocess" in "PS3_GAME\USRDIR\Event" with japanese equivalents.
3. If you want trophies, replace US trophy folder (TROPHYDIR) with japanese equvalent one.
4. Replace US PARAM.SFO with Japanese one
5. Replace US EBOOT.BIN with patched Japanese one (in attachments)
6. Copy US version game on your ext./int. HDD, enjoy and play!


Changelog

v0.1 to 0.12
- Added tutorial for enabling trophies (japanese)
- Homuncullus (Chim) bug fixed, you can now speak to him without crashes and recruit previously unavaliable because of this bug characters
- Some of the items are correctly translated, most of the traits are translated as well - thanks necroziel!


As for now, the game should be fully playable, although haven't extensively tested, but no known bugs/glitches so far.

There's surely some bug in Event\event folders, unfortunately I can't look it further right now, but if you replace US Event\event folder with a japanese one, I'm preety sure you can progress further, and then save and try reverting back to what it was.

If you encounter any glitches\bugs, the best thing is to load vanilla japanese game to pass that glitchy moment

Yes indeed replacing TROPHYDIR works for me too, got the japaneese trophy list now,thanks

by the way i noticed some weird yet funny glitch, in some cutscene characters models are swapped, so when you see Hagel for the first time in the workshop you see a young woman speaking with Hagel voice or seeing the dad of Totori instead of Yksel in his restaurant

everything goes back to normal after the cutscene but it was kinda funny

a bug in cutscenes, example: enter hagel's shop if there's a cutscene the model being displayed is tiffany's.

when you create a homunculus and talk to it the game can't continue because it was treated as cordelia!

About the trophies, I think japaese EBOOT searches for japanese trophies and finds nothing (as there are english in folder) and skips them. Replacing english trophy dir (NPWR02193_00) with japanese (NPWR01231_00) should do the trick.

I'm also 2-3 hours in the game, no glitches/bugs so far.
If someone encounters them, you can use vaneilla japanese version to bypass the bug, save and then revert to the patched version

EDIT: Replacing TROPHYDIR really works!

Yupz, I tried it and also it is working (I am still at the beginning too), the only problem only the text padding but it is ok I still can figure out what it is. Will try to do a request and synthesis

Thank you Tidus ^^ seems to work fine with me for now (i'm still at the beginning of the game). I have a question, not really important but is there any way to have Trophies? The trophy list for this game won't show up for me. japaneese or english trophy list whatever, just showing up the list on the XMB would be fine for me.
