October 12, 2011 // 2:14 pm - Today is a good day for Atelier-series fans! Similar to Disgaea 4 PS3 translation patch released earlier, Tidusnake666 on PS3 News has updated his work in progress and now shared a PS3 translation v0.1 of the Japanese version of Atelier Totori: The Alchemist of Arland 2.

Few thing to note before reading on:

  • Translation was done with Microsoft Translator API based program, so sometimes it, frankly saying, doesn't make sense. But, story messages are natively (officially) English, although there're some padding problems, but they do make sense.
  • Pretty much everything (skills, side-dialogues, locations, names, items, ingredients, even bestiary and much more) was parsed in translation, but approx.10% of text remained untranslated with original Japanese words. But I'm sure you can figure it out
  • Voice acting will be in Japanese (cons of Japanese EBOOT)
  • The game is fully untested, so there may be crashes, although I checked everything byte-by-byte.
  • If you don't like it, do it better!


0. Obtain both JP (BLJM60241) and US (BLUS30735) version dumps of the game. Delete any game data on PS3 you have (you can leave your saves) We'll be using US version as a base.
1. Replace US folder "PS3_GAME\USRDIR\Res\Sound" with the equivalent Japanese one.
2. Replace US PARAM.SFO with Japanese one

lezard you confirm this game has friends quest like in the previous game ? i only see them occasionally request item.

i am using japanese ver BLSJ... install data (the install when you first enter game) but playing with USA version with modified eboot, jap events. no more model swap for me. other things i don't know.

BTW tidusnake what things we get from using US version as base ? i can't really see the difference.

Keep it up guys and maybe we will have a perfect fix.

After playing it for a while, here some bug that can be very annoying for making progress in the game, all of them is linked to the Model Characters swap i think.

- Can't take requests from Cordelia Arland Adventurer Guild ( Cordelia ~ Chim swap, bug at the Atelier if you speak with Chim )
- Can't recruit Sterk and Mark and do their events ( need to talk to cordelia for that, the dialog event won't trigger )
- Can't take friends request apparently

I tried to change the Chara folder with the Japaneese one but it's useless... no change.

i didn't notice any items synthesize bug,seems all clear to me

ok i did some modification to traits NAMES not description and Item names. a few name i cant read yet and mark with "?"

a question to Tidusnake : the area filled with space (20 in hex) means those also editable ?

hopefully nothing wrong lol

ah take this file instead the beginning i still place 00 instead of 20, no wonder it won't run

Okay, I've looked into your file and can say 2 things:

1. Decrypting - editing - encypting already modified file is not an option really, some stuff corrupts
2. Your translation is really messed up in some places, make sure it has the same byte size. If your string is shorter, fill the rest of bytes in spaces. Also make sure translation didn't shift anything.

Here you have unencrypted modified file (just before encryption and release), if you want to make edits, please do it on this file.

was changing item name and trait names to their equivalent one in atelier rorona English, i did try madedit's replace all function, changing Ireland to Arrland.

but i think it somehow corrupted the file as the game won't start... gtg back in 5 hours.

Seems like you have problems with keys (not all keys present?) or with parameters.

Anyways, header was corrupt (as always since I'm in eboot-editing stuff), it was fixed and encrypted back again!
Haven't tested it though, but it should work.

And oh, can we have a list of what has changed? Or it was just a few mere testing edits?

still have error when changing .elf back to .bin

doing like this very difficult cuz I don't know if i did wrong and mess up the file or not lol

try using "341" and not "41": "app" and not "executable";

Also, you may check if the ELF header is corrupt and needs repairing (it happens when using unself) or you can concentrate on work and when it's done, I'll correct & encrypt it for you!

how to pack the elf file into .bin again i tried:

makeself Executable 41 EBOOT.ELF EBOOT.BIN

but failed

1) decrypt eboot
2) open it in MadEDit
3) set encoding to UTF-8
4) press "Find" and type a word you want to find. It also works for katakana, hiragana, kanji, etc.

Homunculus bug can be fixed!

Replace "EventCheck" and "eventprocess" folders with japanese ones!
