221w ago - Update: VICE (Versatile Commodore Emulator) for PS3 version 1.0.2 updates for C64, C128, PLUS4 and VIC20 are now available followed by version 1.0.3 complete with source code!

Today I have released VICE (Versatile Commodore Emulator) for PS3 release 1.0, which is a C64, PLUS4 and VIC20 emulator for PS3 JailBreak users.

Please note, this is not related to the forthcoming release by AreaScout. But a bit of competition never hurt anyone

Downloads: PS3 VICE C64 v1.0.0 / PS3 VICE PLUS4 v1.0.0 / PS3 VICE VIC20 v1.0.0

Currently supporting the C64, PLUS4 and C16.
C128 support in the next release.

Source code to be made available pending some serious cleanup and refactoring.

Build 1.0 (20-11-2010):
-----------------------

- Initial Release, based on Vice 2.2.7

  • Full-speed emulation
  • Audio enabled (FastSID)
  • Fullscreen support, 16:9, 4:3
  • Video filters, with preview
  • Autoload
  • Warp Mode (Achieves ~ 350-700% actual speed)
  • On-Screen Keyboard (partial support).
  • Keyboard Support (partially implemented).
  • Supports all known (uncompressed) formats (.d64 .d71 .d80 .d81 .d82 .g64 .g41 .x64 .t64 .tap .prg .p00)

Thanks go out to Squarepusher, Shinhalsafar, Cm0nkey, Airmaker for their hard work on the Snes9x PS3 port, and their cellFramework library. This work also incorporates their menu system and config UI. Also to the original VICE team for creating a solid and well maintained codebase to work with.

Menu Controls:
---------------

CROSS - Launches the emulator with the selected title set to fast autoload
TRIANGLE - Launches the emulator directly into C64 BASIC
SELECT - Settings / Configuration
START - Returns to the emulator

Vice Controls:
---------------

CROSS - Fire
D-PAD - Joystick

SELECT - Swap joysticks
START - Menu/Configuration

TRIANGLE - Mapped to keyboard for 'Y'
CIRCLE - Mapped to keyboard for 'N' - Doubly mapped to 'UP' (See note 1)
SQUARE - Mapped to keyboard for

L1 - Mapped to keyboard for 'F1'
L2 - Mapped to keyboard for 'F3'
R1 - Mapped to keyboard for 'F5'
R2 - Mapped to keyboard for 'F7'

R3 - On-Screen-Keyboard (partially supported)

L2 + R2 - Warp Mode

*1 The CIRCLE button has been doubly mapped to the joystick 'UP' direction. This is useful for platform style games where the UP direction indicates a JUMP action. Clearly a difference in design aesthetics between joysticks and control pads, this might be more desirable.

Known Issues
------------

- Compressed formats currently NOT supported (.zip .bz2 .gz .d6z .d7z .d8z .g6z .g4z .x6z)
- On-Screen-Keyboard is not fully mapped yet. Some keys will register incorrectly, if at all.
- Actual Keyboard support not fully implemented, but good enough for the minute.
- Does not save settings / configuration

This person had made unknown modifications to the xregistry file which are not required to enable our extra options, so we can not attribute this problem to AcidCFW, if he gets back to us with what changes he made we might be able to help him but maybe not... it is nothing to do with AcidCFW, if you corrupt your registry on PC it can crash, PS3 can be the same.

Np its always better to be carefully

But the problems to normall boot after using ACID this cant be from our fw in case that the files are loaded to ram and cleared after reset or turning of the console.I noticed that CFW loader seams to be a little bit buggy.I also haved troubles to boot acid with it and jumped back to JaiCraB's USB Firm Loader.

If you want to help then just contact us and we can talk about next steps to do.

I always using usb port2 but thats is in case my gsgroove need to be connected to port2.So i also use it for the ACID CFW.
The Debug options will only be available when a specific file will be added.Just wait a little bit. A Birdy have talked to me and told me that a ACID CFW 004 release is ahead

Thanks for clearing that up for me :-) Seems to me its safe to test, although I did notice someone else made a thread stating they have had problems booting up again after trying this. Can't work out why now as u said its booting files from the usb.

(had YLOD with old ps3, so u can see why I'm a bit cautious)

I'm no expert coder, but I hope ill be able to help out. Even if its some graphic designing

Cheers

To answer your questions:

  • No this is not permanent at all at this stage , it only boots into Acid CFW when you run firmloader app, as soon as you reboot it is completely gone,in a similar way to the way the jailbreak hack works in RAM, The dev_flash is only redirected to USB by a RAM patch (Firmloader) using peek and poke syscalls.
  • That is what we are trying to achieve at the moment, it would be easier to convert to debug but what we want to do is different, We want to gain debug options while retaining all retail options such as bluray playback etc.

The ultimate goal of this Customised Firmware is to be installed onto the PS3 internal Flash memory, Then we have a permanent Custom Firmware solution, And possibly no more need for jailbreak, Who knows!

In the 3.50 jailbreak video I see that same image right after he quits from blackbox ftp. I think sony bans us from psn thru game data (metadata). But if you remove game data readability, sony servers cannot pick you out. That's probably how x3max got 3.50 jailbreak working.

i do not have access to a debug unit, however i would venture to guess that either one of two things has been left out. either there is no way for the user to request that a game be quit, like holding down the ps button will not take you to the game quit option. or, when the quit game option is selected, the system call to the quit game function is unresolved. meaning that the system does not know how to quit a game.

again, that is purely my assumption as i do not have access to a debug unit.
