January 23, 2011 // 9:08 pm - Today kmeaw has made available a video proof-of-concept of his upcoming HPR, a PS3 homebrew network PKG repository which includes a built-in PKG Installer alongside BM (Backup Manager) Enabler LV2 V5 PKG followed by BM (Backup Manager) Enabler LV2 V6 PKG.

Here are some POC details thus far from kmeaw via IRC:

Homebrew PKG Repository (HPR) is currently a WIP but runs on a PS3 with a built-in PKG installer, basically, it is a very simple embedded Web browser that can install PKGs.

It uses HTTP to download PKG files and supports a small subset of HTML, as the builtin PS3 browser is much better than this one in displaying HTML but it cannot install PKGs although a complex markup for package descriptions isn't necessary.

Finally, he has also made available a first version of PS3 View of HPR above for those who wish to give it a try!

Good startup ! A database for homebrew apps ! But I think I will stand on the good old base method to get apps via USB stick.

There are some real talent in the scene... Only problem I see that the talent does not get together and build one "proper" or "complete" thing. Why not combine this with the already PSX store? Get a couple of guys who would like to do similar projects and help each other.

Maybe there should be a database somewhere of ideas and then guys all over can start working together. It's like the CFW side too - so many options, but wouldn't it make sense to standardise on one? Just my thoughts - my intention is not to flame any dev or his/her development - everything is appreciated. Weel done on a nifty lil app!!!

I just realized its from Kmeaw, no wonder it doesn't work in Wan's CFW.

That's probably because the PS3 Homebrew Network doesn't really exist yet..

This is still just a working concept in development, and a good one at that. Look at the Wii and it's Homebrew Channel. This is the same idea, but for the PS3

Wondering when someone will make a PKG installer over network from your PC.

Now that'll be a very useful homebrew to have.
