234w ago - Today Nintendo Wii hacker Waninkoko has released TKC Demo v0.1 at Spanish site TeknoConsolas.es (linked above), which is a PS3 demo for PlayStation 3 JailBreak users.

Download: TKC Demo v0.1 for PS3

To quote, roughly translated: Waninkoko has been working on developing PS3mlib, a high level library that provides application programming for PS3, including all types of basic features for video, audio, controls, camera, events, etc. This library will be released under GPL in a few days.

To demonstrate some of the functions supported by this library, he has created the application "TKC Demo 01", a technical demo for PS3 developed with the legal SDK "PSL1GHT."

This demo utilizes simple graphics drawing, playing sound files (using a SPU) and has support for the Playstation Eye (Eyetoy does not work yet.) You can interact with the application through the controller pad:

  • Up / Down: Increase / Decrease vertical speed TKC logo.
  • Left / Right: Increase / Decrease speed TKC horizontal logo.
  • START: Exit the application.

Finally, below is a picture and video courtesy of PSGroove.

Sure thing. For some reason my collection only contained t64 images which are handled entirely differently to .tap files. Shouldn't be a big deal.

However, I've just discovered some minor key-mapping problems when multiple controllers are active (groan). Most notably, this will affect "warp-mode" key mapping. To be fixed next release.

I never tried the joystick, just assumed it wouldn't work. Been using it for a while now and it would be nice to remap the buttons. For instance my right button is the fire and the left button does nothing. With being right handed it would be nice for the left button to work. Another great release, one of the best emulators I've ever used.

C64 - nice. Hope there will come an all-in-one package with every emulator in one file ! Nes, Snes, C64, C16, NDS, etc. in one program which can handle everything. Maybe this is an good idea for an Dev which needs something to do.

Today I have updated the Vice C64 emulator to version 1.0.3 with Source Code for PS3 JailBreak users.

Download: VICE C64 Emulator v1.0.3 Update & Source Code for PS3

ChangeLog:

Build 1.0.3:

  • Configuration / Settings can now be saved
  • Menu based configuration now supports some of the more common VICE settings
  • Added mouse support
  • Physical keyboard support improved (still some minor bugs). Added positional/symbolic key layout modes
  • Added ZIP and GZIP support
  • Added HUD options for framerate/speed display
  • Added HUD options for Disk/Tape activity
  • Added multiple disk drive support
  • Disk images can be inserted using TRIANGLE + L1/L2/R1/R2 for drives 8, 9, 10, 11 respectively.
  • ReSID-FP support has been added, providing significantly better audio emulation.
  • Turn up the speakers on this, it's a world of difference.
  • Support for various SID models have been added as part of ReSID-FP
  • Maximum resampling under ReSID-FP is now default, using the original 6581R4 model SID.
  • Fixed a bug when using compatibility mode. Occasionally TDE was not enabled correctly.

Happy gaming!

I was just wondering if anyone was working on a front end type program for the different emulators, so we dont have programs & roms all over the place.

I'm not sure if a regular style front end like a launcher would work well on the ps3 but even one program including the best emulators for each system configured in such a way you can just select the system and rom then away you go setup with some consistency between where the the roms & screens and things are placed, kind of like the functionality the zerogame project gave us in linux only through gameOS?

That and it would be a whole lot cleaner than having dozens of apps.
