January 11, 2011 // 8:08 pm - Today JoyStiq (linked above) speculates that based on both a NeoGAF Tip by Mr_Brit and a Digital Foundry report Sony may be planning to remotely disable JailBroken PS3 consoles essentially banning them from PSN.

To quote: "Even if you've never signed up for a PSN account, your console will communicate with Sony servers every time it boots up.

That initial load process is used to upload error logs, download updates to the "What's New" module, and a list of recently-run applications, including any unauthorized backup manager software.

Sony has yet to ban any consoles for taking advantage of the jailbreak, but the terms and conditions of the PlayStation Network make it clear that Sony has the authority to carry them out.

Thanks to the system's constant self-reporting feature, "the company even has the means to irrevocably disable your console should it so wish," rendering affected PS3 consoles unusable, online and off. But will Sony ever use such a drastic measure? And if so, how will the hacker scene retaliate?"

From NeoGAF, to quote: "On boot the system contacts the server and uploads the play list etc. this list alone is enough to get anyone that goes online banned as it shows the bootmanger etc. has been running. Here is the list and what they do, I port sniffed this a while ago before I went online with a retail unit >.> because I am not stupid hehe.

Almost all connections cannot just be port blocked, the port will continue to increment until it connects, you have to block the entire domains. Also a big point is that ALL computers on your network need to have these blocked not just the PS3's MAC because if you are running a proxy for example to get patches, the computer you proxy to will just allow the connections right out to the open unless all local IPs are blocked from these sites as well.

Surprising absolutely noone it looks like Sony are detecting homebrew applications meaning that everyone who went on PSN with a jailbroken console can expect to be banned eventually. This is definitely not the only way that Sony can detect jailbroken systems so we'll never truly ever know if it's going to be safe to go online. That ban may come tommorow or it may come in 6 months time but it will almost certainly eventually come."

So she is playing games on the Ps3, backuped to the HDD, but using the OFW?

Nice... I wish they could create an application to "cheat" the ID of a PKG, like Snes emulator install and works like you are playing a "demo" of something.. whatever crappy demo is out there...

I have a PS3 on OFW 3.55, rolled back from CFW, I don't want to give up on my Emualtors, ans is the only homebrew I care really, I have dozens of Ps3 games, and I stick to originals, but I swear if Sony bans me for using emulators because "they read on my Log" I did, I will definitely stop buying at once. and Download ALL there is and will be, and help distribute the copies, patches DLC whatever, etc..

After reading this thread yesterday, I went away with mixed thoughts concerning what may, or may not be visible to Sony prying eyes. So reading this partly confirmed what I was thinking myself, because I ran a sniffer, as soon as the ps3 went on my lan, with Backtrack 4 running within a VM box.

Hopefully this is a little help back to some of you that do not wish to install any hacks on your ps3 keeping it up to date with Sony's ofw and having your own game backups and yes homebrew as well, if you wish, but having just games on your none hacked ps3 is much safer, well it is on my kids ps3 thats got a duff Bdvd like mine and needs PSN.

So with that in mind I could not take any chances of getting my Daughters Ps3 knocked of the PSN, as she uses all the features there, and I mean all. The trouble with that PS3 is the Bdvd is fooocked as well, so no games for here, and I cant take the chance of some CFW showing up on her PS3 so i cant even FTP to it.

So now I have found a way to put games on her ps3 that she's got as gifts without messing with her ps3 at all. Anyway I don't know if it been posted before so sorry if it has and you have read all this cod Shiite for nothing.

What you need to do this with is 2 PS3's sorry I should of said before, 1 has geo's cfw so you can install the games and homebrew to, and the other 1 is the one that has the duff bdvd that I dont want to hack, if ya get me. So all i did was setup the ps3 with geo's cfw, ftp'd some films music photo's games and so on, but no homebrew, because it will show in the logs of whats played.

So stuff any normal ps3 would have on it, games and all. then I connected both PS3's together and told the hacked one to backup to the unhacked one and it did flawlessly, and fast as well. So now my doughtier can play her games online with out the disks or the worry of getting a ban.

And we have two PS3's identical in games and other files to play each other with. Anyway hope this helps others who have the same problems and reasons to not install cfw but need to get games on there ps3 that they paid for.

Wouldn't this be all over the internet by now? I mean PSN bans from Sony from a modified console would be news all over the place.

I have a question. I have loaded homebrew and psn games with the drm taken off and like a dumbass i played online with it.

So will i get banned (Off psn) if i change my firmware and don't go on any homebrew on this ps3? Also can sony know if a psn game has had the drm taken off?

Or don't we know yet?
