January 30, 2011 // 4:57 pm - Today Logic-Sunrise reports that several members of Spanish site Elotrolado are currently working on a PS3 Media Center with MKV and NTFS support.

To quote, roughly translated: Our friends on the other side of the Pyrenees from the forum Elotrolado we have a project that many expect. This is a media center with support MKV and NTFS.

Authors at the head of the project are: AdriHades: Colabor and Beta testing, Chaky: Creator of the GUI, The_marioga: Creator of the file system and analysis of XML for configuration. Some features:

  • Audio playback
  • Playing Videos
  • Picture Playback
  • Support NTFS and MKV

Current project:

  • Ongoing: libntfs for NTFS support and libmatroska for playing MKV files.
  • Progress 40% and no date of publication.

Here is a screenshot of the GUI at the moment (This is not the graphical interface of the final product, it is only there to show the existence of the project.)

I can't wait for XBMC, I have been wanting to build a HTPC for just this purpose.

This is a great project, however it might end up being redundant with the current linux projects that have full rsx support with all cores enabled. Once a propper frame buffer driver is written, it should be a doddle to get xbmc working to a high standard on ps3 linux under 3.55.

xbmc is already a polished peice of software which will have much better support than this media centre.

Would love this. I always get TV episodes off net and the high def versions are always MKVs so being able to play em via the ps3 will be loads easier than messing bout moving the base unit closer to the living room tv.

I'm with all of you out there, eager to get me hands on something like this for the PS3. But I am sad to say, going from what I can make out, and reading between the Spanish lines, I really can't see it happening soon, well not from our Spanish Dev. I really hope I'm wrong, but the guys/girls don't seem to have much backing on this project, because they have not offered any line code to prove the project. Thats not all but I hope you get the idea.

It would be nice if one of our Spanish writing members here, joins that forum, then asks the guy/girl to join here, if not already, and tell him/her that they will have all the backing they need from us, all the way up. we have Deanrr, the best Homebrew Creator so far, so can someone pop and say there welcome with open arms on here for us. Thanks.

I have been looking forward to this, hopefully the project yields results and doesn't end up abandoned.

I want to know if this will be supporting ssa/ass subs with proper formatting, and will this also be able to support smb shares?
