84w ago - After several recent rumors on the PS4 release date, today Sony has officially confirmed that their release plans for PlayStation 4 will be revealed at Gamescom 2013 at 18:00 BST (around 1PM EST) on August 20, 2013.

Below are the details, to quote: "For one week in August 2013, the Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany becomes the centre of the gaming universe as the world's biggest publishers and developers invite you to check out the games that will light up the rest of the year and beyond.

We'll kick off the show at 18:00 BST on 20 August 2013 with a briefing to media on our release plans for PlayStation 4, as well as updates on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

Once the Koelnmesse opens its doors to the public, PS4 leads the way as gamers get to try out the next generation in console gaming for the first time, and there's plenty to get excited about on PS3 and PS Vita too."

Following up on the previous announcement, below is a live video stream for Sony's PlayStation Gamescom 2013 PS4 Press Conference.

From Sony Social Media Manager Sid Shuman: Guten tag! Gamescom, the world's largest gaming event, officially opens its doors tomorrow. But the action begins today with PlayStation's Gamescom press conference.

And lucky you - you can watch live starting at 10:00am Pacific Time (1:00pm Eastern) today with our dedicated livestream! While the conference is primarily aimed at the European market, there will be plenty of developments for North American gamers, too.

If you don't see the video above this sentence, please refresh your page. It should then appear.

At the conclusion of the livestream, refresh PlayStation.Blog to see game trailers and in-depth details from many of the titles revealed on stage. There will be a lot of content to take in, so consider checking out our dedicated gamescom13 Blog tag so you don't miss a thing!

And we'll keep the Gamescom train rolling all week long with hands-on previews, announcements, and interviews straight from the show floor. It should be a good (and busy!) week - please let us know your favorite picks in the comments! If you happen to miss the live show, no worries: the entire conference will play on a loop for the next 24 hours or so.

After the conference, stick around to see a live panel discussion featuring Worldwide Studios president (and Treasure Park master) Shuhei Yoshida, Beyond: Two Souls director David Cage and Assassin's Creed writer Darby McDevitt for a lively discussion around storytelling and narrative development in game design. Should be a good one - don't miss it!

Honestly at this point PS4 doesn't even need to launch before Xbone - MS has made it so PS4 is the winner by default by not launching in most of Europe and all of Asia this year, while Sony plans a global launch.

End November is my humble guess, by mid December latest my personal wish to get it together with FF IV and also ready for the release of FF XIV on PS4 ... Either way - we'll all see soon.
