October 1, 2012 // 10:50 pm - Following up on the PS3 super / ultra slim unboxing, first look, and HDD guide, today I've opened Sony's new console to see what is inside.

I've made a video of the disassembly, and some pictures of the new MSX-001 motherboard.

As you can see, there's a lot of modifications on this model: MB, BR drive, HDD emplacement and so on.

You can see the Blu-ray drive, very small than older BR drive.

PS: To remove the 2 glossy pieces, you just have to slide to the right like the PS3 fat.

According to pereb27, the new model features no RSX IHS (but still contains a Cell IHS) potentially meaning the end of the dreaded PS3 YLOD... it looks like Sony finally did something right.

Below are some PS3 super / ultra slim internal disassembly pictures and videos, as follows:

Finally, here is a PlayStation 3 Super Slim Teardown Guide for those interested as well.

I don't understand the concept of 12GB. Isn't just one update from GT5 is couple GIGs already? How do you manage to play more then a few games this way? And the price difference is so small! I don't get it. Who would buy it?

Okay now the 12 GB makes sense, coming out along side much higher-capacity models.

I updated the main article with the 12GB details from Sony Europe now, they are marketing it as a "wallet-friendly" version.

Also below are some more new PS3 and PSP pics from TGS 2012 (via for those interested as a few HD pics for CJPC.

ok, seen the official press shots. It seems that this model won't have a external adapator to power up (rejoice guys).

and also, it seems that they removed the WiFi LED indicator, and the power consumption is the same as earlier PS3 Slim can give. It also reports that this PS3 doesn't support HD Output over component/D-Sub cables, only HDMI can output a HD resolution while composite cables outputs a 480 interlace video.

Anything about that, nothing's new. So it's up to you guys if you buy this one. But seeing the spec, i'd rather buy the earlier slim models.

since I have a PS3 Slim with CFW, I was interested in getting another one for all "official activities"... this seems to be a tempting version... smaller for storing 2 ps3 a the same cabinet... if it's priced anything like $199 (plain ps3 without all the bonus shxt) or even better at $149 (when ps4 come out) then I'm sold.

PS3 FAT model was coolest. PS3 slim was nice. this one looks odd, but HDD capacity is ok now.. because 250gb or 500gb>>12gb. external power supply will suck.

the smaller PS3 will came with 250gb and limited 500gb models. But since they mention about PS2 slim, I can guess that powersupply on this one is separated too right?

Yeah, I reckon they will have an external power supply too.
