307w ago - Konami has announced a third installment in its Vandal Hearts strategy RPG series, which hasn't seen a new release since the days of the original PlayStation.

Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment is being developed as a downloadable title for PSN and XBLA.

The game serves as a prequel to the original, with Konami promising an interface overhaul for the franchise, multiple endings and CPU-controlled party members who "adapt to the player's style of gameplay."

The game will hit Xbox Live arcade in August and PlayStation Network in September.

Vandal Hearts 1 was a ps1 classic, and a vast game with an amazing storyline, and (for the time) great animation design.

Looking at the screens, I'm dissapointed with how the developers have "cartoonised" the visuals. The character icon's for example are pretty childish and Vandal Hearts was never a game like that, at least not the original. The characters look rushed.

The game series was really spoilt with Vandal Hearts 2, because of the non-western visuals put into the game. I enjoy playing games like Disgaea 3 with an anime elements but it seems every new turn-based strategy game has to have an anime/cartoon feel and over the top storyline. While the first game used more of a western, more realistic approach to the storyline, some of which was very serious and had you thinking, and the animations and character sprites/drawings all looked realistic and ""grown up"".

A return to the original it doesnt seem to be, but I may be wrong, but the visuals alone have spoiled it for me, it's not close enough to the original lol.
