June 22, 2009 // 11:05 pm - Over the weekend the EA Web site had a Left 4 Dead 2 PS3 version listed (pictured below) in the "Coming Soon" section, with their 'games' page showing a placeholder box art for the title as well.

Since then, the EA Web site has been updated and no longer includes the PS3 listing... however, Valve's Doug Lombardi had this to say:

"That's a typo. Check the trailer - 'exclusively on Xbox 360 and PC.'

So there you have it... no Left 4 Dead 2 on the PS3, at least for the time being anyway.

I just think the fellow over Valve hates Sony lol. If I remember correctly the port of The Orange bow for the Ps3 was an atrocity, who is to say he didn't make it that way on purpose?

I'm just being silly honestly I don't actually think the guy hates Sony, I agree with the fellow before me talking about SPU and PPU, that seems to make the most sense any way I cut it.

Look, Valve is not "lazy". They've made a conscious decision to support the current, most-common computing paradigm - SMP (Symmetric Multi-Processing). I.e., lots of CPUs, all basically the same, with the same access to memory. The 360 and the PC follow this model. A design and architecture that works well for this environment can be fairly easily ported between such platforms.

The Cell does not follow this paradigm. It's quite asymmetric - the SPU's are not at all like the PPU, and don't have the same access to memory the PPU does, etc. This design has some major strengths, and impressive things can be done with it - but you have to design in a different way than for SMP.

Cross-platform development can be done, clearly - many developers have done so - but it takes a lot of work and cleverness. And that costs money. Valve decided they didn't want to go to that extra effort, that the money they'd make from it wouldn't justify the extra effort (money) they'd have to put out.

Now, they may well be wrong about that. But that's not the same thing as lazy.

I'm sick and tired of hearing how "developers" are not making the transition to PS3. It comes down to money not time or effort. Microsoft is paying developers to make games only for their system, and is stopping game developers from making games for their competition! simply put, Microsoft does not want competition.

This is sickening, I will for now on boycott any developer that only wants to play with MS, I will refuse to purchase any game that only wants to develop for MS and no other. I suggest that everyone that agrees with me do the same.

Its only valves business to lose in the end, I guess they dont care about the extra sales and money they could be making.

Their reasons are given that the PS3 is too difficult to develop for. They "just want to make games" not spend all their time figuring out an obscure SDK. I'm not saying anything bad about PS3 (I own one) just paraphrasing what was said in an article not very long ago.
