- Yesterday, I talked about some games that I'll be buying for the 360, that I feel may be a bit overlooked with all of the GTA IV and Gears of War 2 Hype. Today, I want to bring to light three PS3 games that I believe are being overlooked with all of the hype surrounding MGS 4 and GTA IV.
While there's a dearth of PS3 exclusives right now, this fall, Sony is going to be churning out exclusives in their attempt to capture the hearts and minds before Christmas. Let's take a look at three exclusives that should be at the front of the hype train, but are riding in the caboose.
SOCOM: Confrontation Release date 9/18/08
Description: (thanks IGN!)
"SOCOM breaches onto the PS3 in high-definition with the ultimate next-generation online combat experience. SOCOM Confrontation focuses on online play and the global community and clans that support it. With support for Tournaments, Clan Ladders, Leader Boards, this fourth title in the multi-million unit selling franchise is exactly what SOCOM fans have been clamoring for.
Additionally, players will be able to modify their appearance through facial and physical customization. A global-scale experience, SOCOM Confrontation gives players the opportunity to battle against the best and brightest from the U.S., Europe and Asia. SOCOM Confrontation deploys with five new North African themed maps, including a 32-player version of 'Crossroads'."
The bottom line: I have really high hopes that this will be the new Call of Duty 4. Previous Socom games were great, and with 32 player online multiplayer, tons of customization and clan support, this could be what the doctor ordered to break my CoD4 addiction.
Resistance 2 Release Date TBD
Hale survives (Spoiler!) and fights the good fight as the Chimera invade the U.S.! More weapons, new bad guys more vehicles, bigger online multiplayer.
The bottom line: This is one of the best selling games on the PS3. It was pretty good and the follow up looks to take everything that was great about the first game, the large scale battles, the crazy weapons and the multiplayer and make it bigger and better. Should be a must own for any PS3 fan.
PixelJunk Monsters Encore Release Date Fall 2008
Description: This game just doesn't get the credit it deserves, so here I am to fly my PixelJunk freak flag!
From IGN: "This expansion pack adds new levels to Q-Games' downloadable quick-play game. Inspired by the popular and addictive "tower defense" genre, PixelJunk Monsters takes the simple real-time strategy concept of building, researching and base defending and presents it in a uniquely attractive style. With meticulously hand-drawn 2D art, PixelJunk Monsters recreates the look of a classic with crisp graphics designed for optimal viewing in Full 1080p HD."
The bottom line: I can't stop playing PixelJunk Monsters and with a whole new island's worth of puzzles to explore, my dedicated PixelJunk Monsters Player, um, I mean PS3 is going to get quite a workout when this expansion comes out in the fall.
There you have it, three to look out for that may get shoved under the carpet of bigger titles coming out for the PS3. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get another rainbow so I can get to the volcano puzzles.
