October 3, 2011 // 5:08 pm - While Online Pass for EA Sports titles is familiar, awhile back we reported that Sony was considering it for other PS3 titles followed by the introduction of PSN Pass for Resistance 3, and today Sony confirmed to (linked above) that all future PSN games will include it.

To quote: "Following an earlier statement from a Spanish Sony representative, Sony Computer Entertainment America has confirmed that an online pass will be included with Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception. Furthermore, we've been told that ALL upcoming Sony games that feature an online component will include one.

"Online Pass will be incorporated into Uncharted 3 and future Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS) games with online functionality," the company told Destructoid. "We will provide further information in the future."

So there you go. It's pretty much a given that if Sony's bringing out a game with multiplayer, you're going to have to input a code. Lovely."

They're not trying to stop hackers this way, they just want to increase sales of brand new games.

I think this whole PSN Pass is bs to the core... i mean:

  • Someone buys a game for 59.99$ (count 60$ + 15% tax -- around 68$ total) and redeems the code
  • Sells it back, he gets like 30$ (which is bs) store then sells the 2nd hand game for around 50$ (why do they give us 30$ but then they sell it at 50$ ?? wtf ... i'd rather use ebay or w/e... scammers)
  • Someone else buys game, pays 50$ instead of 30$... and doesn't have a PSN Pass code (which game devs and game publishers make us pay another 10$ for something that was ALREADY BOUGHT THE FIRST TIME FOR PETE'S SAKE!!!)

1- Game: already bought once, so they got their money...
2- Redeemable codes: already was paid for once... making us pay once more X person won't solve your "omgz we needz $$$ nao!!!!" crisis Sony/M$/others... _

Pay to play

No MKV support
Crappy browser that still didn't get updated since 2006
Games are too dark and sharpness is way too high
High priced console

That's not how it works at all. In almost all cases the "losses" go to the company selling the game, not EB/Gamestop, it's a part of their contract and wouldn't make sense otherwise considering what you think EB is making as profit almost entirely goes to the game company. Or so they claim. Also it's not actually a loss, it's just lower profit. That info is straight from the mouth of EB employees.

So what Sony is still saying is that every single thing they sell STILL BELONGS TO THEM... worthless they all are!

My thoughts are if you want to buy a good second hand game then get any game BEFORE now as they will still be able to play online for free.

Not entirely true I'm afraid - nothing is just black and white as Sony, developers and all other big corporates are trying to convince us ...

First of all - quite a lot people purchase the new (and IMO overpriced) games at release because they know they can trade them later on for another NEW game on release etc. etc. ad infinitum. (How many times you saw COD xy only $/£ 10 - if you trade this or that??)
That's also how much of those retails stores actually makes business (as noone sane would really go there and just purchase the over priced games) - the LIVE from trade ins - it will all collapse with the way Sony is setting the online passes.
And indeed - many people will buy new games ONLY because they're able to get rid of older games they don't play anymore, even if they might not originally purchased the game with such intention.

So - in my view - Sony is effectively damaging their own profits as well as profits for developers as noticeable amount of gamers will be not able to afford to purchase new games as their used ones will be practically useless and noone will buy them back

$10 (get it?) says they'll require the online pass to download patches for single player (ie. Bug fixes)
