September 9, 2010 // 2:59 pm - A few days ago Sony released PS3 Firmware 3.42 which plugged the PS3 JailBreak exploit, and today they have blocked PlayStation 3 proxy connection methods amid reports of 3.42 update issues.

As of today, to connect to PSN and use your PS3 online users are required to update to Firmware version 3.42 rendering the PS3 Firmware Bypass and DNS methods useless.

Additionally, garyopa reports via that some users who updated to PS3 Firmware 3.42 are now experiencing various issues, to quote:

"There is numerous reports of 'Sound Problems,' they seem to be the biggest problem, with sound cutting in and out. Also reports of games like COD:MW2, Battlefield 2: Bad Company, Madden 2011 in crashing or not even loading at times.

Of course with every new firmware update, there is the series of reports of 'bricks,' the PS3 just looping, or frozen forever after the update."

Close but not quite there. If the system layout is anything like the PSP (what I've seen so far it's close enough) then the version would be stored in index.dat which is most likely encrypted

The FTP tool seems very useful. We all should wait and maybe next week (i really don't think its gona be longer then that) we can CFW our PS3.

very strange.

I agree it is strange even with the proxy settings they are able to detect your firmware and asks you to update. If we could figure a way to spoof the firmware version to current it might work or if we could have a current firmware on usb or something and are able to direct the psn to look for firmware from there... Possibilities are endless lol Sony is probally grabbing their hair saying we messed up bad this time...

woot way to gode sony they are quakeing in their boots lol. they know its game over for them but most of their customers will still keep updateing and paying for psn+ so they can get crappy demos and other content 7 days before the normal users.

still i lookforward to seeing lots of good homebrew for the PS3 no more online for me on my ps3, i will get a nother one for online play for games like GT5 etc... but it will be a 2nd hand unit :P so sony dont get any money from the sale screwed again sony!
