246w ago - A few days ago Sony released PS3 Firmware 3.42 which plugged the PS3 JailBreak exploit, and today they have blocked PlayStation 3 proxy connection methods amid reports of 3.42 update issues.

As of today, to connect to PSN and use your PS3 online users are required to update to Firmware version 3.42 rendering the PS3 Firmware Bypass and DNS methods useless.

Additionally, garyopa reports via that some users who updated to PS3 Firmware 3.42 are now experiencing various issues, to quote:

"There is numerous reports of 'Sound Problems,' they seem to be the biggest problem, with sound cutting in and out. Also reports of games like COD:MW2, Battlefield 2: Bad Company, Madden 2011 in crashing or not even loading at times.

Of course with every new firmware update, there is the series of reports of 'bricks,' the PS3 just looping, or frozen forever after the update."

As i believe it, when the game asks for a game update ("update to v1.1" or similar etc) - that is stored on the disc and is not relative to the fw, in which case you can just update the game.

If it specifically asks for fw >3.15 then you will have to find anything between 3.21-3.41 to update to so you can play it unfortunately.

Hi peepz, just think about something but don't have time right now. About spoofing the MAC adress of th ps3 by using the ftp and change it to the router's one or pc one. I don't even know if we catch and change or implement things with it??

just a thought..

I hope this JB thing doesn't end up just being the same as the JTAG Xboxes. While there is a good scene for JTAG items, only those who didn't update their firmware were lucky. A year later and there's still no method for the rest.

That said, i've already got a blackcat and teensy and have been enjoying my new found freedom.

Their loss. I was going to buy the 2nd Mafia 2 DLC today but it looks like I have to download a pirated version of it now. Saves me money and looses $ony some money.

Well a heat gun that gets up to 600 will fix it for about 1year +, back on topic. What is stopping us from writing a program that intercepts the update call and sending our own data kind of like how psnlover works on the psp (I think).

Simple my dear Watson ... unlike JB blocking directly in the firmware the proxy methods need to be blocked on the server side so Sony simply pushed that via closest / next avaiable maintenance slot due to the severity of the security issue

Basicaly - it's like trying to close the gate when horses are gone

None in their right mind with JB would (at least for now) go online anyway neither update their PS3 so this is just locking out pople not aware of the JB as of yet.

B4rtj4h, I noticed you wrote ":P i am NOT gonna update again and i am not gona get my solder kit to fix my YOLD. No way." I know this is off topic, but my ps3 crapped out on me last night (for the 4th time) and I know about the heat gun trick.

But how did you re-solder your console and get the YOLD gone? Or could you point me to a better way to fix my console (besides the heat gun trick), maybe a tutorial you know of. Thanks in advance, if you can't help me appreciate anyways.
