February 16, 2011 // 11:33 am - Update: As expected, countless users in our PS3 Forums have confirmed receiving e-mail notices from Sony followed by their PlayStation 3 consoles being banned.

According to Mathieulh if you get error 0x8002A227 Sony banned your PS3 from the PSN.

Today Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has posted the following statement from Sony Computer Entertainment on PS3 circumvention devices, piracy and PSN bans:

Notice: Unauthorized circumvention devices for the PlayStation 3 system have been recently released by hackers. These devices permit the use of unauthorized or pirated software.

Use of such devices or software violates the terms of the "System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System" and the "Terms of Services and User Agreement" for the PlayStation Network/Qriocity and its Community Code of Conduct provisions.

Violation of the System Software Licence Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System invalidates the consumer guarantee for that system. In addition, copying or playing pirated software is a violation of International Copyright Laws.

Consumers using circumvention devices or running unauthorized or pirated software will have access to the PlayStation Network and access to Qriocity services through PlayStation 3 system terminated permanently.

To avoid this, consumers must immediately cease use and remove all circumvention devices and delete all unauthorized or pirated software from their PlayStation 3 systems.

What this means to you:

Circumvention devices and game piracy damage our industry and can potentially injure the online experience for you, our loyal PlayStation customers, via hacks and cheats.

Many PlayStation.Blog readers have asked how we intend to deal with these incidents that they have been reading about in the gaming press, and this is our initial response.

By identifying PlayStation 3 systems that breach our guidelines and terminating their ability to connect to PlayStation Network, we are protecting our business and preserving the honest gameplay experiences that you expect and deserve.

Rest assured, this message does not apply to the overwhelming majority of our users who enjoy the world of entertainment PlayStation 3 has to offer without breaching the guidelines detailed above, and we urge you to continue doing so without fear.

My two year old son, when told not to do something, will invariably do as much of it as possible in the span it takes for me to get to him to remove him from the situation.

Certainly sounds like a lot of people and PSN.

no they haven't actually banned most yet, it's more of a "we're onto you, stop it or else" warning.

Got the email yesterday at 7:02pm EST. Said screw it and used FckPSN to sign in th PSN. Played Medal of Honor for about 3 hours. I even signed out once and back in. Played fine. Went to bed. Woke up this morning and signed in again using FckPSN without and errors or bans. I must be lucky. (For NOW)

I am not worry about that because I never was online when JB first announced so I knew it would happen just like X360. I am not stupid and I am not going to do it in the future. I am happy being offline.

New poster here - Came here after having a discussion with my nephews over CFW. I initially helped them install it (2 nephews, one 8, one 13) do to the "homebrew" and Linux options. More as an educational process. I'm a software and game developer myself part time btw.

So they went home and came back a few weeks later, showing me how they could pretty much obliterate anybodies gaming experience on Modern Warfare 2 online with moronic hacks, and had several pirated versions of software. Along with PSN titles from small developers.

See peoples point in "having backups" - I myself am an avid gamer with kids running around and have never ruined a disk.. but then again I respect what I own. As for the "Linux" option defense? Hmm..

I sat them both down and explained to them (as a business owner, and developer) the value of working hard... and what is implied or not when you buy something like a PS3 - and use their network.

It's like buying a gun or anything, yes you own it... but if you go outside of using it responsibly, and ESPECIALLY if your actions cause harm or disrupt others, you should pay the consequences. I'm ALL for banning the systems involved. They have given notice.

Be a great idea for Sony to perm-ban and offer a 100$ buy back program with the system - refurb it, unban it, and sell it again to someone responsible. Suffice to say both of my nephews removed their CFW.

It seems money is the major issue involved here, or lack there of. I've always worked hard and never expected something for nothing.

Go work a bit, get a second PS3 offline if you want to run Linux, or build a entertainment center PC. If you want homebrew - the same... or help fund your Indie devs by buying the products. You love a product but have hate that they make profit (To fund more projects... hire more workers.. give job security, and yes.. line their own pockets... keeps the engine running)

Trust me.. there is no hate on hackers or developers here, I'm well versed in both.. just be "responsible" to yourself and society. If you are that wrapped up in free software or being able to fly around MW2 - you are either a child with no means or respect for money.. or an adult that needs help or guidance.

I really wish CFW the best - develop an alternate network. And yeesh, the worst part is making it easy enough for a child to do now-a-days.. with the bad parenting out there, any kid can learn thievery and poor social etiquette is okay! I commend the ones that actually try to develop or use it in the manner most people defend CFW

ps3's but not ips or accounts. probably by console ID rather than MAC but it's 100% not an IP ban or account ban.

I wasn't talking about Homebrew, I was talking to the guy that doesn't even know what copy-protection circumvention is.
