February 16, 2011 // 11:33 am - Update: As expected, countless users in our PS3 Forums have confirmed receiving e-mail notices from Sony followed by their PlayStation 3 consoles being banned.

According to Mathieulh if you get error 0x8002A227 Sony banned your PS3 from the PSN.

Today Social Media Manager Jeff Rubenstein has posted the following statement from Sony Computer Entertainment on PS3 circumvention devices, piracy and PSN bans:

Notice: Unauthorized circumvention devices for the PlayStation 3 system have been recently released by hackers. These devices permit the use of unauthorized or pirated software.

Use of such devices or software violates the terms of the "System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System" and the "Terms of Services and User Agreement" for the PlayStation Network/Qriocity and its Community Code of Conduct provisions.

Violation of the System Software Licence Agreement for the PlayStation 3 System invalidates the consumer guarantee for that system. In addition, copying or playing pirated software is a violation of International Copyright Laws.

Consumers using circumvention devices or running unauthorized or pirated software will have access to the PlayStation Network and access to Qriocity services through PlayStation 3 system terminated permanently.

To avoid this, consumers must immediately cease use and remove all circumvention devices and delete all unauthorized or pirated software from their PlayStation 3 systems.

What this means to you:

Circumvention devices and game piracy damage our industry and can potentially injure the online experience for you, our loyal PlayStation customers, via hacks and cheats.

Many PlayStation.Blog readers have asked how we intend to deal with these incidents that they have been reading about in the gaming press, and this is our initial response.

By identifying PlayStation 3 systems that breach our guidelines and terminating their ability to connect to PlayStation Network, we are protecting our business and preserving the honest gameplay experiences that you expect and deserve.

Rest assured, this message does not apply to the overwhelming majority of our users who enjoy the world of entertainment PlayStation 3 has to offer without breaching the guidelines detailed above, and we urge you to continue doing so without fear.

In Canada we are in the middle of a new copyright bill being looked at that will ban breaking digital locks and make it illegal to PVR TV and more. Currently, as far as I know it's legal to use CFW and back up movies or games (you own) and play them on another machine(IPod or whatever), and illegal to loan out a movie or game. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyone against the bill should google it and there are peteitions you can sign and send to local and federal govenrnment.

From what I'm seeing in this statement by Sony, is they are seemingly willing to pardon current users of unauthorized software, but I see no actual help from their end on how to remove it.

System repairs I wasn't saying you're wrong, I meant the document says it's unsafe. Sony purely rely on the PSN authentication system to keep this data safe. Which is obviously not a safe system.

But they do receive the info that you have used one in the past. It's just they aren't acting on it. I know quite a few 3.56 users that formatted and all that but still got the email for previous offences so obviously they do still receive that information (from old logs).

But you are correct if you format and upgrade to 3.56 Sony won't ban you, they said as much in the statement and the emails sent out.

Can Sony still have an argument if you are solely using your payload to run homebrew to access Linux?

Is it really that hard to understand at all? Getting sick and tired about the things i have to explain 10 times.

I said: If you want to go on the internet without being locked out or walk any danger for a BAN do this:

Take out your PS3 Hdd and format it on a PC / iMac. Install a fresh official FW on your PS3 and let it install all the data.

This way you can safely enter PSN. Sony won't be able to receive any info that you have used a JB device or loader.

well apparently the email goes to the first (or primary) PSN account address but not to any other accounts but I wouldn't worry anyway PSN access is no big lose and the ban wave hasn't started yet but the message is pretty clear if you use an unlicensed code you will get banned from PSN. not exactly suprising but given the information stored on the PSN Sony are legally bound to keep it safe (and understandably so) so as long as people keep trying to force themselves onto PSN with unlicensed code, Sony's actions will get more & more drastic.

SKFU has also recently post on how someone could use the ban wave to have legitimate users banned by tampering with the packets during transit.

Barry you've given good info, but your always jumping the gun if you think someone's wrong.

You post states how they secure our info and should be how they "pretend to" because this information they collect "dosen't exist". We're not supposed to know that they even collect it. Thats all I'm stating.
