March 12, 2011 // 1:39 am - A few weeks back we reported that Sony was hiring IP investigators as part of forming a PS3 anti-piracy program, and today Dutch site PSX-Sense (linked above) reports that they may also be recruiting PlayStation 3 hackers as well.

According to rumor, Sarah McRae contacted Koushik Dutta regarding a Software Engineer position that is opening at SCEA.

To quote, roughly translated: Something we wouldn't expect from Sony; they are recruiting hackers for a job at SCEA. A hacker named Koush got an e-mail, which is 100% real, from Sarah McRae which works onsite at the Talent Acquisition department.

He had been asked for a job at the R&D Departmen at Sony, we're sure Koushik isn't the only hacker which has been contacted by Sony. As a proof Koush posted a screenshot of the e-mail.

Everyone has their price. Humans are so weak, enough money and they'll do anything. this is why the world hates the west.

we will kill our brothers in battle if you pay the toll.

This might not be related to the PS3, but more toward their upcoming Android phone. For those who don't know, Koush works on ClockworkMod, a flashable android recovery that allows users to backup and flash ROMS on their android devices, among other things. I can see it as a move to stop piracy on the phone if they release games or whatever on it.

Just because they send someone an email saying they "may be a good fit" doesn't mean they are offering them the job. The person would still have to go through the whole formal interviewing and hiring process.

seems real to me:

Mind you given his skill set it's more likely they are trying to recruit him for either for an android project or some sort of cloud based application project (for either xperia play or possibly NGP).

And it is very common for people to be recruited via email in exactly this fashion.

Any 'hacker' who accepts would be a fool. First Sony shits on them and now they want their help? Yeah right. Though I'm sure there are some sellouts who don't see the big picture who would accept.
