Rumor: Sony Recruiting PS3 Hackers to Combat Console Piracy

208w ago - A few weeks back we reported that Sony was hiring IP investigators as part of forming a PS3 anti-piracy program, and today Dutch site PSX-Sense (linked above) reports that they may also be recruiting PlayStation 3 hackers as well.

According to rumor, Sarah McRae contacted Koushik Dutta regarding a Software Engineer position that is opening at SCEA.

To quote, roughly translated: Something we wouldn't expect from Sony; they are recruiting hackers for a job at SCEA. A hacker named Koush got an e-mail, which is 100% real, from Sarah McRae which works onsite at the Talent Acquisition department.

He had been asked for a job at the R&D Departmen at Sony, we're sure Koushik isn't the only hacker which has been contacted by Sony. As a proof Koush posted a screenshot of the e-mail.

She does exist. Not sure where this vacancy would fit in under her remit according to linkedin? Quality assurance?

Anyone can make up an email like this. I do know that large corporations have long been recruiting hackers for anti-virus, spy-ware, anti hacking software and network security. It is possible they did offer him a chance at a position.

You checked with Sony? I guess that reply is a confirmation this is real? C'mome man! Anybody can make that statement. It may very well be real but I'm still a little skeptical myself.

Also, she asked to communicate via phone. She could have very well done that via his email address she used in this communication.

This guy has major integrity in my book for not signing on with sony, It is also bad that sony is reaching out like this.

This guy is a very skilled programmer and its possible he had applied for a different position, and with Sony's move to drop there new game platform to Android hence e-mailing him with a different job title offer.

This has nothing to do with the ps3 aside from someone very public to the android scene getting recruited by sony and telling everyone about it.

PSFreedom is what he made for the ps3 the Jailbreaking app for the android platform.

Isn't this the obvious next step for Sony? I'm honestly surprised they haven't done this sooner.

I would have taken the job. I could give a crap less about Hotz when I have a family to feed.
