October 4, 2011 // 5:15 pm - According to (linked above), the PS3 will support Sony's VPL-VW1000ES 4K Projector stills following a future PlayStation 3 Firmware update, however, moving pictures will still remain out of reach for the time being.

To quote: Once you've cleared the $25k or so in your budget that it will take to snag one of Sony's 4K VPL-VW1000ES your next problem will be finding some 4096x2160 res content to view on it.

While showing off the new beamer for its Japanese audience at CEATEC today, Sony announced the PS3 will get a firmware update around the beginning of 2012 that will allow it to natively output 4K stills.

There's a PlayView "visual magazine" already available on the PlayStation store in Japan that supports 4K and 3D, but this update will bring super high res viewing of your vacation pics, or any other high res image files you can snag, to the living room.

While your friends will no doubt be impressed by the museum-quality art gala you're now capable of hosting, we're starting the timer for 4K video sources - if we don't hear anything concrete at CES then we'll be incredibly disappointed."

Frankly - instead of this purelly PR stunt - I'd rather see the PS3 games to run on 1080p or at least native 720p and not (as majority do now) on sub HD res in rangeas 800x600 or even less ...

great i'm sure the 14 people in the world that actually own this will be greatly appreciative to Sony. I know I can't wait to show people my pictures at home in 4k resolution, it will be like we are all there... sarcasm.

Also people saying they cant wait for this to be standard res. HA! we cant even get them to go 1080p...

In order to use this technology you should buy a new tv today too much expensive. However it will be a fw update who adds a new feature and not one of useless fw updates of recent times.

Well 4K = is a much higher resolution, but there isn't that much source material. I mean, you can't walk into a store and buy a disc. Furthermore, the 4K via PS3 - I'm guessing there using some sort of HDMI trick to get it done (sending a few frames, and then reassembling), since 1.3 spec is considerably lower (25601600 per wikipedia) and not 4K.

That is awesome , but is this projector really better that much better than any other normal projector? I couldn't really tell any differences with the comparisons they showed us.
