May 14, 2011 // 5:46 pm - Today VP of Sony Network Entertainment Eric Lempel has announced that PS3 Firmware (System Software) update 3.61 is now released!

The PS3 3.61 update uses the same keys as 3.60, which can be obtained by dumping the PlayStation 3 RAM when lv0 puts them into lv1 space.

Additionally, Eurogamer has confirmed that PSN is scheduled to go live at 1AM (GMT) and Kazuo Hirai has posted an official PlayStation Network restoration announcement video (below).

To quote: We have been working on a new PS3 system software update that requires all PSN users to change their password once PlayStation Network is restored. The update (v3.61) is mandatory and is available now.

If using a PS3, your password can only be changed on your own PS3 (or a PS3 on which your PSN account was activated), as an added layer of security. If you have never downloaded any content using your account on the system, an email will be sent to the registered sign-in ID (email address) associated with your account when you first attempt to sign-in to PSN.

This e-mail will contain a link that will enable you to change your password. In this email, click on the link and follow the instructions to change your password. Once you have changed your password you can sign-in to your account using your new password.

We strongly recommend that all PSN account holders with PS3s update their systems to prepare for when PlayStation Network is back online. The release of this update is a critical step as we work to make PlayStation Network significantly more secure. Thank you for your continued support and patience.

I'm in Europe ... so I still can't try to do anything, but I think I'll have a little problem:

My PS3 broke down during the PSN downtime. I sold it, because someone wanted to have that 40 Gb fat ps3. (maybe hoping some repair service will manage to get it back running) Well, in any case: I've bought a new PS3 and wanted to start playing again. However: According to recent announcements you need the PS3 on which a PSN account was activated before the PSN failure.

I so sincerely hope Sony has some kind of plan for such cases. Considering the number of PS3s out there I guess I'm not the only one affected ... after all: Though the technical-failure-rate may be low, some always break down ... and those people (including me) still have the right to access their own PSN accounts abd bought PSN contents. But: How?

I agree with you totally, a game share between specific registered consoles should be supported for OFW console's in situations like yours.
I have an OFW online console and CFW offline console for similar reasons

Yeah dead right am not going to be spending 40 quid for majority of games that give you a days game play and gathers dust , rent it play occasionally at your leisure , each time cod and FIFA comes out need to buy 3 copies of each for me and my two sons.

have 5 ps3 in the house and should be an official way the 3 of us can enjoy 1 game without me having to spend 150 quid each time , so yeah I'm having the cake , cherry and the custard but won't go on line with my CFW as that's wrong.

I've just watched the video , synically am thinking this has been an opperunity Sony have created themselves to prevent CFW and mfw units being able to go online with hacks , what better way to fix it by creating a security scare like this take all servers offline and rebuild they full service , with their new security levels who will take the risk now ??

Any way doesn't bother me too much I have two ps3 and happy to stay on 3.55 CFW with one unit and use my ofw unit for buying FIFA and cod .
