March 31, 2010 // 9:57 pm - As scheduled, today the PS3 Firmware 3.21 update is available for download and as Sony previously confirmed it disables the OtherOS functionality in an effort to make the PlayStation 3 entertainment system more secure.

Download: PS3 Firmware 3.21 Update (US) / PS3 Firmware Update 3.21 (EU)

PS3 hacker GeoHot (EgoHot to skeptics) has promised a solution to those who hold off updating their console which may include PS3 Custom Firmware alongside a Nouveau open-source PS3 RSX driver rumored to be in development.

More details to come as they are available, including a full PS3 Firmware version 3.21 changelog. At the moment, all that is available from the PlayStation Japan site according to is the following, to quote: "Firstly it appears the quality of of PlayStation format software from the Store has been improved, presumably referring to the PS1 functionality (FFIX?).

Secondly, it appears that the security of MP4 video playback has been boosted too, removing some vulnerabilities."

RSX objects:

0x0 -- 0x30 -- NV01_NULL
0x31337000 -- 0x4097 -- NV40TCL
0x31337303 -- 0x39 -- NV_MEMORY_TO_MEMORY_FORMAT
0x31337A73 -- 0x309E -- NV40_SWIZZLED_SURFACE
0x313371C3 -- 0x3062 -- NV40_CONTEXT_SURFACES_2D
0x3137AF00 -- 0x3089 -- NV40_SCALED_IMAGE_FROM_MEMORY
0x31337808 -- 0x308A -- NV40_IMAGE_FROM_CPU

• The [Install Other OS] and [Default System] features have been deleted.
• The playback quality of some PlayStation® format software that is downloaded (as a purchase or for free) from PlayStation®Store has been improved.
• A security patch was added to address security vulnerabilities that may occur when playing MP4 format video files.

Finally, those who don't plan to update may want to check out the guides on How to Bypass PS3 Firmware 3.21 and Connect to PSN.

Hi Guys,

I remember using the proxy bypass trick years ago, and just tried it now and it works using the CF3B5 application

However I am just wondering whether it's possible for the PS3 to get banned when using programs like the CF3B5/ProxyServer, can $ony detect this ?

This is so funny... Right when I get Ubuntu 9.04 Running on my PS3, out comes 3.21 which kills my entire fun of having a Linux Machine and Console all in one. Serious note, I thought this update was an april fools joke, but from what I am reading around, it's the real deal. Meh! Now I have to mass migrate all of my linux stuff to my external DVD drive! Thanks alot for this update.

ps3 setup to use proxy, proxy-connecting to pc wlan cards ip adress, every other setting (router, ip, dns) set to configuration taken from router. have also tried auto detecting each setting.

logan5's proxy both unchecked and checked box tried after rebooting ps3, pc, router and modem.

every networkcards configuration tested and connects to internet prior to setting proxy.

- On your PS3, sign out of PSN
- Download and install PS3.ProxyServer.GUI here:
- It doesn't create shortcuts so navigate to C:\Program Files\CF3B5\PS3.ProxyServer and run PS3.ProxyServer.GUI.exe
- Type your current LOCAL IP ADDRESS (probably 192.168.*.*), you can leave the port as 8080, check PS3 Mode
- Whatever port you use must be open on your router, so if 8080 is blocked, open it now
- Go to the Replace Files tab and click Add
- In the left box, paste this address:
- In the right box, click browse and find your LOCAL COPY of the 3.15 ps3-updatelist.txt file, download from here:
- Back to the Proxy Settings tab, click Start
- From your PS3's XMB, go to Settings, Network Settings, then Internet Connection Settings
- Keep everything the way you have it configured now except for the Proxy Server option, make sure you click Use
- Type the IP address and port number to your local computer (from step 4 above)
- Finish configuring, test connection, make sure it connects
- That's it. If the connection test works, you can now sign into PSN with 3.15 and bypass the 3.21 firmware check
- Note that you must keep PS3.ProxyServer.GUI running when you want to use your PS3 until we get CFW

If you are getting a message about the .NET framework, it seems the link the installer gives you goes to the newer version. You can get 1.1 from here. I can confirm that PS3.ProxyServer.GUI works perfectly on Windows 7 x64.
