Many thanks for the above replies, i will try the defragmenter on my external HD and have reformatted the pendrive and am trying USBInsane as opposed to USBUtil. I will try it out tonight and post results tomorrow.

Does anybody know of an ISO which works on a NTSC/US PS3 with no patching required (please state if it's a PAL or NTSC ISO if possible) This will at least enable me to try and narrow down the problem.

Right, did as stated above only stuck with USBUTIL not USBInsane, tried 4 different loaders, 0.6, 0.5, 0.41 and USBLD_0.2b, the only one to work with the game I tried (Tekken 5) was USBLD_0.2b, it booted from the pendrive and external HD, it also worked on GT4 off the external HD but have yet to try the other loaders with this or any other games I have.

I think I may be stuck with 0.2b until 0.7 comes out.

Hmm, I'm not sure but I think the white screen means a badly ripped or patched iso. which program are you using to put the game in ul format?
try using another program. there's usbinsane, usbextreme, usbutil and a couple of other programs. for version 0.6 the games can't have any fragmentation at all, so use the powerdefragmenter tool. link 2 posts above yours.

I don't use the tool on my pendrives though. if they start acting screwy I just reformat the whole drive. Also make sure your computer is not too busy doing other things when you installing the game. that gave me problems.

Not all games are compatible so no matter what you do some games still might not work.

Hi there, sorry to be a complete noob, I have a backwards compatible NTSC/UC 60gb console, I have swapmagic on a 8gb cruzer skin usb stick which loads up no problem, I have tried 0.2, 0.5 & 0.6 open loader, these all load up fine and show the games either on this pendrive or my external HDD.

The problem I am having is that I cannot get any games at all to work, they all hang on the white screen after going yellow etc. first. Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong here?

many thanks in advance

Hello,

because of USB1.1 speed many FMVs and in-game movies stutters. I'm asking is there any possibility to grab FMVs from ISO -> decrease their bitrate and quality -> and import them to back to ISO /replace them/? It's pity that the gameplay is OK, but FMVs cannot be seen /for example FF, RE4...

Thank you!

You can't put the games on the ps2 hdd. you either have to load the game through usb or through network(SMB).

ya. because of the increase of performance the games cannot be fragmented at all. try this program to defragment the individual game files. you should also keep all games unpatched.

I've been testing Open PS2 loader build 203 on my PS3 (PAL 60GB).

Both wired & wireless loading via SMB work (share is on a Win XP machine).
Wireless performance is worse than USB (choppy intro's), wheras wired (Gigabit connection) performance is better than USB (not perfect yet).

The developers are overhauling the network code so I'm guessing better performance will be forthcoming.

Game compatability is definately improving. Some I've tested (all PAL);

Spy vs Spy = works
Gran Turismo 4 = works
Ready to Rumble Round 2 = works with Mode 6 enabled
Final Fantasy XII = works
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit = works
Time Splitters 2 = works
Smugglers Run 2 = works (didn't work with older versions like 0.3)

Cheers

Ya, it's playing ps2 game images you have on your PC hdd. It works with wireless too.

there's no official release yet of version 0.7 which supports SMB. The source code is open source so anyone with the no-how can compile the elf. I don't have my ps2sdk set up properly to compile it. shouldn't be much longer for version 0.7 though ver 0.6 doesn't support SMB
