July 15, 2008 // 3:29 am - The announcement was made earlier today that FFXIII is coming out on Xbox 360 too. In fact, it'll be a simultaneous release on both PS3 and Xbox 360 for US and Europe. Today's Square Enix E3 press conference clarified a few details.

First: Final Fantasy XIII is still a PS3-exclusive... at least in Japan. According to Kotaku, Square Enix exec Shinji Hashimoto told reporters: "I think you are right [in assuming that (the Xbox 360 version) is not coming out in Japan.]" It will only appear on Xbox 360 in English-speaking territories.

In addition, Final Fantasy XIII will release in Japan first -- and then will be localized for the international audience. That means Japanese gamers will enjoy FFXIII on PS3 long before the rest of the world will see it go multiplatform.

Hashimoto says that the Xbox 360's large install base in English territories is what led to the decision to make the game multiplatform. Because the decision was recent, there's no way of estimating how many discs the Xbox 360 version will be.

Also, Final Fantasy Versus XIII is still in development as a PS3 exclusive.

Final Fantasy XIII no longer a PS3 Exclusive!

Would be a smart move my kojima productions, because if it can sell another 3 million copies its just dobling its winnings with almost the same cost of production, minus the cost of porting the game, but anyways its a win-win situation for kojima...

Anyway mgs4 can sell a lot more copies down the road, a lot of people still dont have a ps3 and all the ps2 fans will probably want one sooner or later and mgs4 is a really great game that they wont pass, so even if sales arent the best just yet, mgs4 has a lot of room to go up.

And if we get to see a port on the 360 do you think they will leave the ps3 and blu ray disk joke? haha

I believe sony will deliver its greatness with other exclusives, so far weve got good games that have gone mulitplatform like gta4, cod4, etc. But the reason I believe sony will deliver its promises its because the ps2 is still producing.

The ps2 has over 100 million users and a good game for ps2 will make more money than a ps3 game, its just math, but the ps2 will be over soon now that sony has some ps3 games under the hood. The ps2 has been going for almost 10 years, and the ps3 is only 2 years old so give them some time to prove themselfs, so far rrod in the 360 is a huge let down comparing it to sonys solid ps3.

Great games for the ps1 and ps2 will come to the next generation, just look at the great library of ps2 games, trust me we will see these franchises again. I truly believe in sony and so far we've seen some victorys on the ps3 like the bluray format being the winner, all in all the ps3 is a great machine guys ff going multiplatform is great for us consumers as more people can play this awesome games in their favorite console.

The PS3 is much more expensive than a Xbox 360 and lots of games (for example the EA games) which were published on both consoles looked better on the Xbox 360. That's why more people buy a Xbox 360 and not a PS3. The publishers want to get money (more selled games = more money). Sony can't do anything against this except paying them millions of dollars.

Sony should have kept thie title exclusive, it would help sell more consoles. I know someone who bought a 360 just for Halo 3. I know people would buy it just for FF. At least the PS3 still has blueray. Blueray is the reason why I chose to buy the PS3, the xbox 360 only has games and the HD-DVD add-on weren't that good. They need to keep their exclusive titles and not sell out.

Well now that I'm done playing Metal Gear Solid 4 I guess I will just sell it after I get done with Little Big Planet. No point since I have a 360 haha.

It's not that bad that Final Fantasy is going the multiplatform route. It's not like it's an exclusive for the Xbox360 or anything. I agree with Nightfox, MONEY TALKS!

I do not believe the PS3's future is seriously threatened by this development, depending on Sony's ability to move PS3s as Blue Ray players into households which happen to have gamers in them. Once the PS3 becomes as big in America as it is overseas, developers will see less financial benefit to going cross-platform, especially as 360 owners are forced to buy one to keep up with the blue-ray movement.
