November 7, 2009 // 9:00 am - Today (linked above) managed to get their hands on Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for Sony's PlayStation 3 console and have confirmed that the title does not require any PS3 HDD installation.

However, they do report that upon receiving the game users will be prompted to download a 15MB update for it.

To quote: "Well today I got an early copy of Call Of Duty MW2. I put the disc in, and well the bad news is it requires a 15MB update but does no require any install whatsoever. So gamers can pretty much jump in and play on the PS3 version of the game.

Hmm.. makes me wonder if other developers can follow suit and at least make it optional."

Thanks to the OP.

I recently had a nightmare upgrading my HDD as I thought all new games would require installing gamedata. I was unable to successfully backup my original PS3 HDD so gave up after 2 days and decided to start fresh. It was a pain having to reinstall all previous games.

But back to the OP this is great for people who have the Original PS3 and don't wish to upgrade.

one question Playing new games would need the PS3 to update to latest fw right?

so when the CoD6-MW2 comes out.. we'd all be force to update the ps3 and screw it up eventually and pay sony to fix it?

LOL at me haha, I didn't see that capital B, but 9 MBps are still a lot my stupid mistake , but before this gets off topic, I definitely agree that HDD install should be optional. Does anyone knows if there's such optional install for for the others systems?

They really should offer the install on the ps3. Not that the ps3 would load slower from bluray than the 360 from dvd but the HDD in the ps3 would provide a definite boost to loading.

I'm not adverse to games installing to the HDD, if it speeds up the experience and saves my Blu-ray from going U/S. The installs in the whole scheme of things don't take a massive amount of time.

Just put it in it the button and sit back with a nice cold beer. Can't believe some peoples luck though - A mix up with the post and the sending company, meant that a mate had his copy of Modern warfare 2 last Friday (6th Nov).

I do not mind a one time install if it means my Blu-ray drive is used less while playing the game.

If there is an install, I just go make a sandwich and then it is done. I really do not understand why people complain about a ONE-TIME install. I mean is it life or death that you play the game right then. After that it never happens again.

It's true, check this out, it's from a good source (no, it's not from wikipedia ) :

yea the install is optional with most games, but you don't get trophies or can't play online. The trophy support follows up with the installation & the updates follow behind that. Even though some people can go without the trophies, i prefer the challenge. The updates for the online are a great deal also because any next gen game out basically becomes useless without online play or DLC (downloadable Content) & all COD (call of duty users want the map packs that come out. More than likely you'd find a reason to want to install the game anyway

thanks god we dont have to install it on the HDD i prefer to sit down and play a game rather than sit down and watch it install =(

A couple people are actually playing it in the US as well, I'm not really sure if it's out yet or not. Besides i favor the Unreal Tournament style of play with shooters & always have since dreamcast.
