March 9, 2011 // 9:11 pm - As previously reported, Sony has now put their PS3 Firmware 3.60 system software update live.

PlayStation Plus subscribers can now backup their save files via Cloud online storage, which allows users to store up to 150MB of save data or 1,000 save files (whichever comes first).

The PS3 Firmware 3.60 update also allows users to select a timer for their PlayStation 3 controllers through the addition of a new menu option to set the amount of time before the PS3 controller powers off due to inactivity.

According to PS3 hacker KaKaRoToKS, Sony removed all the loaders in the PlayStation 3 Firmware 3.60 update as well. Below are some relevant Tweets, as follows:

Wow, in 3.60, Sony removed all the loaders, no more isoldr/lv1ldr/lv2ldr/appldr.. but they added lv0.2! Seems they found a way to secure PS3.

We already have the metldr key, the thing is that they don't use metldr anymore, at all!

They can't update or remove it, but very surprisingly, they just bypassed it, it's there but unused..

Humm, looks like lv0.2 is just the SCE header of lv0, just like the spkg, it doesn't contain code in itself... just resigned with securely..

LV0.2 is just the new metadata for lv0 (one encrypted and signed using new bootloader keys (for future consoles)

Nope, no sarcasm.. of course, nothing is secure, but the flaws they had before seem to all be fixed. at least at first glance..

For now, it looks to me (at first glance) that the ps3 has been resecured, but it doesn't mean it can't be broken again from scratch..

btw, just thought about something.. metldr could still be used, but the ldrs are inside lv0 instead of being in separate files, that's all..

Sony’s 3 step solution: 1 – secure firmware update (3.56), 2 – secure firmware decryption (3.60), 3 – secure psn: change psn protocol (3.6x)

I wonder if the update will fix the problem of being stuck in 3.56 factory/service mode.

Hahaha Sony!!! WOW! I just wanted to point out that I received an email from Sony telling me that jailbreak software/backups/homebrew existed on my PS3 and to restore to original settings or be banned from PS3... bleh bleh blah.

Before I received this email, I had already disabled my Network settings for at least 1 month. I had never logged in after the email I received, mainly because I did not want to upgrade FW.

I logged into PSN with the DNS trick today after the PSN went back up, my PS3 is not banned. In fact, I bought Black Ops: First Strike DLC.

Stupid Sony.

Okay thanks. I was trying to avoid that lol. I guess I will get back on the phone tomorrow.

I had switched drives out because I was trying to update to a SSD and I ended up formatting my original drive to put into a laptop. The reason for this is because my GF needed the laptop for school work so I figured I would wait a few days to install the PS3 firmware and enjoy faster load times in GT5 but I guess I got screwed.

Thanks for your help. I was trying to avoid giving Sony an earful but it looks like nothing else will work.

prabal - if you've changed hard drives on 3.56v1 then you need to put the original in, upgrade the firmware to 3.56v2 then change the drives again.

If the drive is dead/unusable/formatted already then you have to send it to sony. Call their customer support and give them an earful till they get you a refurb free of charge - it's their stuff up - they need to fix it.

I fired up the PS3 to see if this would fix the my bricked 3.56v1 console but it didn't do anything. Still says it's corrupted data (8002F225). I can't afford to send my console back to Sony to have fixed so I was hoping 3.60 would fix things for me. Are there going to be game discs out that will have firmware 3.60 on it that could be used to fix my brick?

Still, they are not going to license Skype. Please don't feel the trolls. You have nothing to prove to them.
