February 28, 2011 // 2:22 pm - As a follow-up to our previous article, today the civil court of justice in the Hague has granted LG a preliminary injunction that will see all new PlayStation 3 consoles imported into Europe confiscated by customs for at least ten days leaving only a few weeks worth of PS3 stock left in the channel.

To quote from MCVUK: "Shipments of PS3 consoles have been seized by European customs officers as an LG injunction against Blu-ray technology seeks to block Sony products from sale, according to a report in The Guardian this afternoon.

Earlier this month, LG had filed a claim with the International Trade Commission calling for a block on PS3 sales, saying the device infringes on its copyrights.

The technology firm claims its rival's Blu-ray disc devices use four patented technologies while, Bravia TVs infringe another four.

At the time, the firm said it wanted to have sales of the PS3 (which plays Blu-rays) and other products banned.

And now, surprisingly, its got its way. The Guardian reports that an initial injunction has now been granted by the civil court of justice in the Hague, leading to all new imports of PS3s to be confiscated."

i like the sentiment of this, but me: i don't care what brand a product is. as long as i like the product they will get my money! BUT that being said that don't mean i won't do what i want with my property, even with they don't like it!!!

Yes Sony started it, No they didn't do this solely because of Geo, yes it's cereal:

Proof is in the pudding. People ask "Why did they wait so long?" and I think I know why. It wasn't until the system was hacked that LG themselves could look inside the system and see the software the bd drive used. That's why Sony was trying to get anything related to the hacks off of the net; not because of piracy but because anybody can look in the system imo.

And the price of future games won't go up; they'll just tag them all with activation codes. If you bootlegged the game, you'll go to the ps store to purchase a license. Hell, they could put licenses for sale in gamestop in the used game section. That would be the smartest thing for them to do but Sony isn't using their collective brain. I haven't seen anybody complain about that method of piracy control yet.

The whole "cheating only exists online because of cfw" crap is a flak shield. As long as a game has bugs and exploits, cheating will still happen; period. They can fool all of those new gamers like that but not me. Been online gaming with PS since the Network Adapter.

Someone on one of these threads said that with Sony going nuts over the hacking that it seemed they must have been hiding something more than just the keys to homebrew. This supports his/her claim. Perhaps it could be this LG code, and other stuff in the system like this? Didn't someone else say that they'd done things they shouldn't have with linux or open source code elsewhere in the PS3 a long time ago?
