Sony Confirms PS Vita PSN Accounts Linked to Memory Cards

Today Sony's associate brand marketing manager Crystal MacKenzie has confirmed that PS Vita PSN accounts are linked to the handheld's memory cards and not the device itself for those wondering.

Essentially this means those who like bringing their gamer profile and downloadable games over to a friends house to show them off will probably like the PlayStation Vita since the PSN accounts are bonded to the memory card they're downloaded to.

To quote from GameInformer.com (linked above): “Your PSN ID is bonded to your memory card and your memory card is bonded to your Vita,” Sony associate brand marketing manager Crystal MacKenzie told Wired.

“So if you wanted to change different PSN users but use the same memory card, you would need to go factory reset.”

So accessing your PSN account and games is as easy as swapping out the memory card they’re installed on. Sounds simple enough. If you have too much media for one of Sony’s spendy storage devices, you can have your PSN account linked to multiple memory cards.

One question I have is how often do you think you’ll be swapping out memory cards on your Vita? When would you ever be toting around your memory card without your Vita?

Finally, Sony has confirmed to Wired that only one user account can be used on a PlayStation Vita for those wondering.

The memory card is linked to the hardware, it won't work on another system without being reformatted.

Never, there is no chance I'm supporting DRM thats this inconvenient to end users.

Sony, a real bunch of idiots Not just our console will be locked to one PSN account (so your brother/friend cannot use his ID like ps3) but now no more hardware related? I truly pray, as soon as possible someone will clone their memory cards. We will see clones sold full of games with a PSN account of someone, copied billion times. Cool Sony seems too much sure about this new format, poor them

Such bs... I think I'm done with consoles, it feels more like a war now than gaming.

Hopefully sony will realize the whole point of their console is to SELL GAMES ON, not war against the pirates.

I don't mind them trying to stop piracy, but doing it in the laziest possible way that affects all users (including legitimate users!) both through inconvenience and needless excessive expense WILL kill the system.

There is NO legitimate reason their DRM has to be this invasive to be secure, it's just cheaper for Sony to do it this way.

It's the same on most consoles. I think I will just stick with my PC.

If some company releases a game with a crappy DRM, I just ignore it and continue on.

Can't do that when the console ITSELF feels like making things hard for me.

See - this is just another reason why I won't buy the Vita. Apart from the stupid name, the fact it will most likely flop, and all of the crap sony has done lately, now this - ugh. (Yes, use all of the commas!)
