PlayStation 3 Stereoscopic 3D?
Does anyone know how PlayStation 3 sends its Stereoscopic 3D?
I am not sure how PS3 is sending its 3D to be honest. Keep in mind PS3 is 1.3 HDMI. Did some searching with Google and it "seems" the PS3 is able to use both Frame-Sequential stereoscopic 3D as well as frame-packing 3D (over and under?). But as of now it "seems" games might just be using frame-packing 3D which in the case of a 1280x720p image, it becomes a 1280×1470 image, with 30 lines of black separating the two views. But does anyone know for sure how PS3 does its 3D? Looking to know if it's sending out frame packed HDMI 1.4 3D or side by side, line by line, top and bottom 3D that is in the 1920x1080 frame raster.

Well as you said yourself - since the PS3 is not HDMI 1.4, they use some tricks to get it done - alas, for us it means sub 1920x1080 quality for each eye.
Sony (according to them) uses the stacking method, top and bottom with a 30px gap (so 1280x1470).
However, what is interesting is that the SDK supports HDMI 1.4 output at 1920x1080p@24hz, and 1280x720p@60hz - which, begs the question - will we see a HDMI 1.4 slim anytime soon?

Thanks for the information! Looks like it does top and bottom frame-packing then. And even if they added 1.4 HDMI, the GPU in the PS3 doesn't really have the power for full 1080p60 let alone 3D 1080p60. Also keep in mind the limited memory. Anyway, I think the 1920x1080p@24hz is for blu-ray movies only. Will that be 1920x2190 then? o_O
Such a shame that you need a 3d tv to see in 3d too bad it cant use a different 3d for non 3d tvs.
