Play PS3 backup on a PS3 - How to?
Some idea about a way to play backup on a PS3 (and XBox 360 + wii).
Currently we have these communication layers on a PS3 when we read a blueray disk/game disk.
Blueray Disk<=>Lens<=>Decode optical to numeric signal<=>Encrypt data<=>Send these data to main board<=>Decrypt and run.
Won't it be possible to have
Laptop/Computer<=>USB cable<=>Custom Chip<=>Decode optical to numeric signal<=>Encrypt data<=>Send these data to main board<=>Decrypt and run.
The idea is to simulate a lens/"optical2numberic chip decoder" using a raw image stored on your computer (or simulate the optical<=>numeric signal). We don't "burn" backups anymore, they are all stored on an harddisk. Speed of reading could be even faster.
Any ideas why it could or couldn't work?
How would you get the keys to encrypt the data? There is already encrypted data on the disc, your step of encrypting data in the first process doesn't work that way.
The more technical stuff i'll let the dev's handle since they have way more knowledge about this.

The structure of the Blueray/DVD cannot be changed. So what is transmitted after the lens is never changed. We don't care if data is encrypted or not on the blueray disk. (We just replay the data)
The idea is to backup a blu-ray/dvd at this hardware position, and replay what has been backuped just after the lens.
