    Is anyone else having problems with this? I followed all the instructions with both the snaps and the roms, and they all show up, but everytime I try to launch one, it crashes back to the xmb.

    Okay, I noticed on the source code change page there are lots of great changes already added. Anybody know how or have the time to write a guide to compiling and creating the package? It would be fine to just compile, install this version to setup the file structure, and then copy the newly compiled files over the top of the others via FTP.

    I may dig into it some if I get some time tonight after a beverage fest as it would be really cool to try out some of the latest feature like auto frame skip, fixed prompt to find ROMs, cheats, and more "options" support in the menu. Don't go ballistic on the cheats comments as this is only in MAME and has nothing to do with killing the PSN, PS3 or Sony!

    Are there any developers out there that can do a simple how-to or is this different not so simple?

    awesome keep up the good work! I seriously can't wait to play in the hunt, biomechanical toy, charlie ninja, joe and mac, dyna gear and many other great arcade games on my ps3! sweet.

    today I had the chance to take a look at mame v0.142 and to my surprise (considering it's still a preview) most games ran pretty smooth and without any problems. however games like in the hunt, gun force II, undercover cops had major performance issues. i also had to use /dev_hddo/ROMS/mame to make it launch otherwise it just showed up an error message. changing the rom path however failed (mame just crashed)....

    stuff i'd like to see in the near future: different ratios (16:9), hd crt shaders (beautiful aren't they), save states and more overall performance to play my favorite games.

    anyway thanks to the developers for making all this possible!

    for mame copy zipped rom images to /dev_hdd0/ROMS/mame (case sensitive)

    you can use multiman [SELECT + START] to create dirs and copy files from a USB stick or follow this:

    1) on FAT32 USB stick create folder 'ROMS' (uppercase)
    2) in folder ROMS create folder 'mame' (lowercase)
    3) copy *.zip images into folder mame
    4) plug USB stick to PS3
    5) start multiman and press [SELECT + START]
    6) select dev_hdd0 on right pane and press [X]
    7) select dev_usb000 on left pane and press [X]
    8) now select ROMS on left pane and press [O] to copy ROMS/mame/* to /dev_hdd0
    9) exit multiman, start mame and you should be happy

    A couple of month later we're still on 0.142 (code google). Does that mean development has been suspended?

    From comango (via tortuga-cove.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=21&p=38848#p38848) comes a new MAME 0.125 front end who states the following:

    Hi there, I've made another MAME-port with frontend (linked above). It's based on MAME 0.125.

    Create a folder name "MAME" on /dev_hdd0 or /dev_usb000. Then create three subfolders, "ROMs", "snap" and "samples". Copy your files there.

    Root Internal
    • dev_hdd0 / MAME / ROMs
    • dev_hdd0 / MAME / samples
    • dev_hdd0 / MAME / snap

    Root External
    • dev_usb000 / MAME / ROMs
    • dev_usb000 / MAME / samples
    • dev_usb000 / MAME / snap
    • and iso/DVD

    dev_dbvd/PS3_GAME/USRDIR/ ROMs samples snap

    You can create an .iso emulator or burn it to DVD and run the roms from these.

    Note: You must run the emulator on the XMB (the .pkg) packages and select the route dev_dbvd / PS3_GAME / USRDIR / (iso/DVD) to load roms mounted .iso or DVD, because if you run it directly from the .iso or dvd it digs.

    Sorry for my bad English.. you can also manually edit the path in the Init.ini file (MAME00125/USRDIR/Init.ini), to avoid duplication with other arcade roms emulators, but the MAME / ROMs route must always be present for this emulator, eg:

    isodir = / dev_ms / ROMS / fba / MAME
    isodir = / dev_sd /
    isodir = / dev_hdd0 /
    isodir = / dev_usbXXX /
    isodir = / dev_cf /

    Update: Hi folks, I just noticed my frontend has experienced some attention, so I registered here to give you a link (linked above) to a package that contains the frontend discussed above along with the snapshot folder, a readme explaining the usage AND the source code. BTW, I'm running FW 4.65 (HABIB) v1.02.

    Have fun and MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!

    Finally, from JediKnight007: How to add games to the MAME 0.125 front-end

    I've been messing around with the MAME 0.125 front-end recently, and while it supports a lot of games, there are some classics missing, such as Centipede, Paper-Boy, and Space Harrier, among others. So I did some experimenting, and found how to add games to the front-end.

    Go to the list folder inside the MAME installation. Look at _by_rotation.txt (the one with the underscore in front). Notice the format...

    Zip Name
    Game Title
    Screen Alignment - (H) for horizontal, (V) for vertical

    Open this file in a word processer, then go ahead and delete EVERYTHING. Yes, you won't be able to sort your "old" games by rotation, but you need this file for your custom list. Besides, sorting alphabetically, by year, or by manufacturer is much more useful, anyway.

    Add your games by following the format, listing (H) games first, sorted by Game Title, then (V) games, again sorted by Game Title. Best way to get this info is to load the game in the original MAME 0.125 port, and select Game Information from the in-game menu.

    An example...

    [Register or Login to view code]

    When you're finished, put the _by_rotation.txt file back in it's place, put your games in the ROMs folder, and start the front-end. Press Square to select the All Games option (as opposed to only particular categories), then press Circle and choose By Screen, and there you go! (assuming you did everything right )

    You can add clones this way, just make sure that the parent game is also in the ROMs folder, too. You can also add snapshots, just rename the PNG to the Zip Name and place in the proper folder.
